Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto recently described the company's new development approaches, with more games like Splatoon on the way.
The initiative, which is seeing Nintendo introducing new concepts and IPs alongside the big names, is known as "Garage", where developers form smaller teams to flesh out new ideas. This is particularly apparent in the younger staff, Miyamoto said, where "these young guys really want to express themselves."
Work is still carried out during regular office hours, but he feels that Garage is more of an "after-school club".
Once these projects have gotten to a certain point, "together we decide which ones should continue." Several of these, including Splatoon, were shown at E3 and Miyamoto teased that "there are many others in development too."
