Xenoblade Getting New Nintendo 3DS Port on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

During Nintendo Direct this morning, the company outlined plans to port the original Xenoblade Chronicles to the New Nintendo 3DS.

The company announced two brand new Nintendo 3DS consoles this morning, which include a beefier CPU and additional buttons, and it seems that the hardware will be getting its own set of exclusive titles, in addition to supporting all standard 3DS games.

The first game announced for the upgraded hardware is Xenoblade Chronicles, an enhanced port that can only be played on the new versions of 3DS/XL.

The move, for Nintendo, isn't anything new as the Japanese game maker had similar schemes for the Nintendo DSi and also the Game Boy Colour in the past.

Nintendo also confirmed today that Xenoblade star Shulk will be making an appearance in Super Smash Bros.

Should Nintendo be releasing version-only software? Will you play through the Xenoblade Chronicles port on new 3DS?

I'll admit I'm not totally thrilled that it's not coming to the original 3DS models - on the other hand, Xenoblade was one of the best games ever made and never nearly got enough attention. So a release on New 3DS (or a better name "Super 3DS"Smilie and Shulk in Smash Bros 4 will hopefully give it a boost in popularity.
On the other hand, I never bought the 3DS XL didn't see the larger screen as worth it… but with the ZL/ZR and Dual analog sticks as well as better speed and Xenoblade Chronicles on the go… consider me practically sold on it. My wallet is going to hate me…

It's something of a catch-22.

  • People are upset they would need to buy updated hardware to play the game.
  • But without the updated hardware, the game wouldn't exist to be played in the first place
