Rumour: New 3DS Also Getting Ram Upgrade? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Rumour: The new Nintendo 3DS consoles could also see a boost in memory, according to some homebrew coders.

Whilst digging through the latest batch of 3DS firmware updates, coders noted how the recently announced new 3DS models could potentially have capacity for more RAM and VRAM. The report suggests that the available RAM would increase from 128MB to 256MB, doubling up the memory available to software, with additional VRAM of 4MB (over the additional 6MB dedicated VRAM).

The figures come from the latest general firmware version, and not specifically linked to the new hardware models, but it appears there could be some relation.

Nintendo did confirm, officially, that the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL consoles will have "additional processing" capability.

What do you think of the potential upgrade in RAM for the consoles?

Maybe to bump up the abilties of the webbrowser you can access while a game is still in Ram.

I still think a better webbrowser as a downloadable bit of software would be nice for ALL 3DS users, even if it couldn't be run when another bit of software is on standby.
Also, 3D Support on Youtube. Come on!

Yeah, I can imagine how it would be better to have more RAM so that the web browser on the thing isn't as sucky as it is now. The weak screen resolution is already a problem as it is and if I have the choice, I prefer to use my smartphone to browser while gaming on my 3DS rather than pausing the game to browse on the 3DS itself (especially if looking for a gameplay video, since the 3DS web browser couldn't read videos directly so far Smilie)
