Smash Run Won't be Playable Online in Smash Bros. 3DS

The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. won't include support for online play in the Smash Run mode.

The multiplayer feature, which pits players into a seemingly never-ending maze to collect abilities prior to a battle, is exclusive to the portable version. Intending to add some variety to multiplayer, the feature will be available to players locally, but not online, according to producer Masahiro Sakurai.

Japanese magazine Famitsu had reported that the Smash Run mode would be playable online, but Sakurai noted on Twitter that it was indeed a mistake.
