Use Wii U GameCube Adapter with Classic Controller Games on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Update: Nintendo has since given an update on this, saying that the GameCube Adapter will ONLY work with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and that previous information it would also be compatible with Wii Classic and Wii U Pro Controllers was a mistake.

Original story: The GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U will support games that use the Wii Classic Controller, and Pro controllers.

The upcoming peripheral allows for four GameCube controllers to be hooked up to the Wii U console using two USB ports, with the main game that Nintendo intend players to use being Super Smash Bros. for Wii U when the action heats up this November/December.

However, the GameCube controllers will also be compatible with "all games supported by the Wii Classic Controller, Wii Classic Controller Pro and Wii U Pro Controller." The adapter will retail for £17.99.

What games will you use classic GameCube controllers with?

So you're saying I can play The Wind Waker HD with a GameCube controller? Not that I wasn't going to get this for Smash anyway, but SOLD!

woooooh game changer and if that sort of support is already in there, gamecube VC will be a snap!

I'm confused. The Wii U Pro has the clickable sticks, select and home, and the extra shoulder button over the GC Pad's layout. How can the latter support the same button-heavy games as the former?

But will it work with Wii games? This would really breathe some new life into Brawl, that game just isn't the same with the Wii Classic Controller Pro. I'd also love to play through Xenoblade with a Gamecube controller.

Still pretty cool that it supports Wii U games, though.
