Smash Bros. Amiibo Trailer Reeks of Cheese on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Want to know just how amiibo works? Nintendo have posted an amusing new trailer for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

The amiibo trailer, which wreaks of nostalgic 90s American advertising, features a young lad who's rather smitten with his older brother's friend. Wanting to impress, he asks for an amiibo character to join in the fun.

The upcoming figure platform from Nintendo includes a range of toys featuring characters like Mario, Princess Peach, Samus, Link and Pikachu. These will include NFC (wireless) tech that allows them to connect to the Wii U GamePad controller and exchange data - things like fighter information, customisation and stats for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U for example

Known as "Figure Players" in the upcoming Wii U game, the figures can gain levels to become stronger after fights. Players can also watch amiibo characters battle each other, bringing presents to their owners.

This still hasn't told us anything that we don't really already know. I'm really hoping for an amiibo direct pretty soon.

EDIT: I spoke too soon, I just actually thought this was lifted from the smash direct. It doesn't really tell us anything new but should explain to people who are clueless about the platform. I understand how it works in smash but it just feels tacked on...I don't feel like it's worthwhile levelling up a character becuase for my circumstances I don't know anyone locally who would play as much as I would to have a similarly levelled character. However for siblings I could imagine that this would be a feature that could be used!

Isn't it "reeks" not "wreaks"?
