Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma recently discussed The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D in Japanese magazine, Famitsu.
The upcoming 3DS version of the iconic Nintendo 64 adventure originally came about when Shigeru Miyamoto, father of The Legend of Zelda series, discussed what to develop after Ocarina of Time 3D. Miyamoto felt that the game could "play more smoothly than the original as it is possible to put the game in sleep mode at any time."
Aonuma initially had some reluctance, but decided to consider it as the team could introduce elements that would help newer players.
The original game had the assumption that players had experience with Ocarina of Time, so had cranked up the learning curve a fair bit. The 3DS version will still keep the core three-day mechanic, but there will be some additional tips/hints, a change in one of the boss battles and also the ability to fish at two places. Majora's Mask 3D will also include optional gryo controls for those who like to waggle the console about.
The game will also boast features that would be exclusive to NEW Nintendo 3DS, despite the game being compatible with all 3DS consoles, with Aonuma teasing "Please wait for the opportunity to discuss how playing on the NEW 3DS differs at a later date."
Finally, Aonuma recalled how the team originally pondered whether to make a "Master Quest" for Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64, or create entirely new dungeons. To solve the need to push a sequel within a year, the team used the film Run Lola Run as inspiration.
What do you think of the changes in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D?
