Aonuma Teases a 'More Amazing' Zelda Wii U

In addition to talking about Majora's Mask 3D in Famitsu, Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma also touched on the new Wii U adventure.

He teased that the upcoming game looks "more amazing than what was shown at E3" and how many different visual styles were considered when penning a Legend of Zelda game that spanned a wide, open world.

He also discussed the new enemy that was revealed in the game's trailer, where players would need to devise a strategy whilst escaping on horseback. These sorts of situations is what the team are striving to include, with Aonuma asking the question, "If an enemy like this appears, how would you beat it?"

The next public viewing of The Legend of Zelda for Wii U is expected at E3 next year, with the game slated for release in 2015.

What are you hoping to see in the new adventure?

This sort of open world was exactly what I wanted for Zelda when playing Xenoblade for the first time.
It seemed the logical state for the game series to be, expanding on what Ocarina of Time started. (which was a pretty important game for streaming/open world tech).

I only hope they can come up with gameplay as innovative.
Failing that, let me snipper hockshot miles across the landscape Smilie

Funny to me the original Zelda on NES was open world.......I feel the GTA and Saints row Final Fantasy and Even Dragon Quest plus countless other open world titles owe Zelda so much......

Not so concerned about open world, as such, mainly would like:

- Better, more realistic NPCs who aren't there as hint givers - some story element to them, better dialogue and more involved in the adventure.
- Minimal Miyamoto involvement - he soils storyline driven games, badly. Zelda really should be storyline driven.
- Missions - post end credit missions, like horde maps, treasure hunting, racing etc.
- No "3 gems" - mid game twist - structure. Urgh.
- No Ganondorf.
- Less predictable ways of getting items and defeating bosses. Proper back tracking.

Despite introducing new mechanics and ideas, at its heart Zelda is pretty outdated.

Great suggestions, jb.

Defo agree on no Ganon. There is still room for him on occasion, perhaps in 2D/handheld games like ALBW, but when we come into 3D territory where Zelda needs to evolve and bring with it strong, original storytelling, Ganon rearing his ugly head can just as much damage Zelda's storyline and turn it into cliché. It was already an eye-roll moment in 2006 when - surprise, surprise - Ganondorf was the mastermind in TP.

Zelda has potential to go far bigger and better in story, as well as in its world/gameplay, and I think Ganon returning constantly makes for too much of a repetitive, generic experience, no matter how he fits into the game - whether it's revealed right at the start, halfway through, or (at worst) near the end as the true final boss. For smaller/2D Zelda, it's more acceptable, but not right now in 3D Zelda when it needs to take big new steps.

I'll probably always come back to MM in more ways than one in where Zelda can learn from. No Ganon, and much more in-depth/interesting NPCs with more relevance to story/gameplay started right there, but I still don't think Zelda's ever really kicked on massively from that to go new places/reach its potential.

At the very least, open world-esque/non-linearity is a big step up for me, but needs to combine many other elements to be truly great.

Yep - and that's with them making it under so much time pressure/pressure off the back of OOT - potential is huge with the new Wii U one. I think there needs to be a "feels" moment in this one too - really get us connected to the characters - there was really none of that in Skyward Sword. Apart from that pressup guy.

Though that said, Link saving Ganondorf would be lols.

Or if they literally have Ganon killed off in the first 5 minutes.

Always imagined an E3 teaser where Miyamoto's like "wassup peeps" and it cuts to a clip of Ganon being fireballed up the bum.

I agree less structure is needed - absolutely.
But to be fair both TP and Skyward sword actually had quite a lot of story elements in NCPs.
Hell, Majoas Mask had lots of little storys in its 3 day cycle.
