Toads are Genderless, Aren

Curious about those adorable Toads in the Super Mario Bros. universe? Nintendo's Koichi Hayashida shared details on gender and relationships.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, producer Koichi Hayashida recently spoke to GameSpot about the Mario species, who have been a staple of the Nintendo landscape for decades. With Captain Toad now getting the starring role, Hayashida clarified several previously unanswered questions about the Toads.

"Even though they have somewhat gendered appearances," he said, Nintendo never went out of their way to "decide on the sex of these characters." He feels that the Toads are genderless, and how they simply take on gendered characteristics.

For those who wondered if Toad and Toadette were romantically tied or simply related, Hayashida revealed that they are just "adventure pals."

Finally, he stated that the Toads aren't mushrooms and how "that's one of the great mysteries of the Mario universe."

What do you think of the latest Toad revelations?

~cuuuuuuute~ Just makes me liking Toadette (and Toad too ofcourse) a lot more...

The difference between illusion and reality is vague to the one who suffers from the former and questionable for the one suffering form the later.

Yeah, indeed, Wish more big videogame companies will follow suit. Smilie

So why is it called the mushroom kingdom? And why are they called "Toads"?

Then again Donkey Kong's name is illogical too.

Hypothesis;
1. There is a larger number of mushrooms around the kingdom - its landscape is made from these giant fungi and always has been. Its why its named.

2. However, the toads are an unrelated species that evolved to take advantage of the mushroom shape as camouflage.
They gained the name toad as a shortening of toadstall mushrooms.
