Australian NEW 3DS can use European Data on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Those who have purchased the Australian NEW Nintendo 3DS console can use European data.

The NEW Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL consoles are currently available in both Australia and Japan, bringing upgraded internal hardware, extra shoulder triggers, improved 3D screen and an additional analogue nub.

NintenDaan, who has the Australian/PAL hardware, was able to "trick" the console into using data from his European Nintendo 3DS console by setting the console to AUS initially, going into the eShop, exiting and setting the locale to a European country.

Will you import a NEW Nintendo 3DS, or will you wait till a European release?

I wonder if this is the first step towards losing that damnable region lock Nintendo is so in love with.

I own all the consoles, ask me anything

Probably not, because Australian and European consoles both use the same region code anyway. Nintendo could just simply get rid of the region lock with a OS update, but eh.. I don't see them doing that any time soon.

Yeah. I wonder what made them add a region lock after the DS Lite? the DSI upwards is locked but the original DSs were not locked.
