Have Nintendo and Sony Closed an Animated Mario Film Deal? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Leaked reports seem to suggest that Sony Pictures and Nintendo have closed a deal for the animated film rights to the Super Mario Bros. series.

In a series of emails within an assortment of hacked Sony files were suggestions that film producer Avi Arad had secured the rights to the franchise, with Arad having contacted Sony Pictures' Amy Pascal noting how he is "the proud father of Mario the animated film."

A follow-up email from Pascal to Tom Rothman of TriStar Pictures notes how "Avi closed Mario brothers."

An update to the initial BuzzFeed article noted how the negotiations with Nintendo were "just the beginning" and the deal had yet to close.

Do you think an animated Super Mario Bros. film, in the right hands, could work?

if this is true...... they'd be better off going with pixar

The perfect situation is if it were done by the team behind "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs" and "Hotel Transylvania", i feel they would have the right flow and energy required to do it animated justice. Script on the other hand i haven't a clue but i sure they wouldn't half arse it.

I think the only animation company with the skill to get a meaningful story out of Super Mario would be Pixar. I certainly can't think of any Sony produced animated features off hand that have been great. To be honest I can't help wondering if Nintendo themselves are wanting to start making animated feature. Miyamoto has recently experimented with the Pikmin short films and I can't help feeling like this is them testing the waters.

Exactly Trepe, I would have thought Miyamoto would have liked to keep this in house as well. I wouldn't care for a movie too much but I would love to see a Smash Bros anime. That Paulenta reveal where Link and Pit  were fig

Them or Paramount, still IF this is true I hope sony doesn't try something dirty & underhanded like when Nintendo & them were going to make a console together....nothing ruins a contract quite like sneaking in a few more shares to your favor. I'm just glad Nintendo caught onto this before they let sony touch their games....*shudders*

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422
