Nintendo to Partner with Sharp for Free Form Displays on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Reports suggest that hardware manufacturers Sharp will be providing Nintendo with free-form displays for a future handheld.

The company are already in charge of producing the 3D screens that power the Nintendo 3DS, and it seems that Sharp will continue to provide the Japanese game maker with nifty displays. Free-Form displays are designed to defy the conventional, rectangular shape that allows hardware to match a variety of different applications - for example a single panel on a car dashboard, as seen below.

Production of the screens will begin in 2016. It's currently uncertain where or even if Nintendo would use the technology - whether in a new portable/3DS successor or in a Quality of Life product.

How do you think Nintendo would use free-form displays?

Next up in Nintendo's portable line the Nintendo Circle!

I think this could make quite an interesting idea so long as Nintendo make sure third parties are up for it before entering development.

I own all the consoles, ask me anything
