A pair of fans have devised a way to play New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and other games, over the internet or local network. With the New Super Mario Bros. series offering intense, often hilarious, local multiplayer on Wii and Wii U, it seems odd how Nintendo haven't yet offered support to play with others online.
Now a pair of programmers have gotten together to create an unofficial means of playing multiplayer online, by "sending a long stream of inputs over the Internet; button presses on a controller."
The creators are working on various issues at the moment, like shaking the Wii remotes, but are planning on releasing the mod at somepoint, plus the source code for others to contribute to.
The technology isn't limited to New Super Mario Bros. Wii, either, but that particular game is the main goal of the project.
