Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai shared even more tidbits about new characters in the game.
Recalling the inclusion of Wii Fit Trainer, he noted how in Brawl, "non-combatant-like characters wouldn't be added," however in the new games, Sakurai and the team wanted to "create new fun things". He was able to ponder "how Wii Fit Trainer and Villager would operate."
The latest games gave importance to uniqueness between characters, as "each character has to have individuality."
As for Dr. Mario, he noted how his moves had "a lot of individuality in Melee," when compared to his counterpart. The team thought that "people might be angry (laughs)." In order to make it work, Sakurai made sure that when the pair went up against each other, it would "most likely result in a tie." The same approach was taken for Marth and Lucina, Pit and Dark Pit.
For Duck Hunt Duo (Dog), Sakurai felt it was fun to do the "shooting-like presentation. Like having a third person intervening the action."
As for how the new characters were announced, the team did have a "schedule of what gets announced and when all was decided beforehand."
Finally, Sakurai outlined how Mii characters were included - with the bodies and outfits included to make them more in line with fighting characters, rather than "my mommy."
