New Fire Emblem Announced for 3DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Today's new Nintendo Direct kicked off on a very high point, with a trailer for a brand new Fire Emblem title on 3DS.

The game looked very familiar to Fire Emblem: Awakening and so it should. Coming once again from Intelligent Systems and also Kozaki Yusuke as the character designer.

The story for this game will be written by an award winning Manga writer Shin Kibayashi.

Entitled Fire Emblem IF in Japan, this entry into the series is focusing on the player choices with the effects being touted as having a big impact on the world around the player. It also promises a number of challenging new features that are yet to be revealed.

Fire Emblem has a fantastic fanbase so a new addition with extra features is bound to be well received!
No news on release date as of yet as this was quite an early look. How excited are you all?

"How excited are you all?"

Not excited whatsoever! R.I.P. SMTXFE. :'(

I did actually think it was SMTxFE at the beginning, but was definitely happy for a new 3DS game.

I guess around five to six months from now (E3 or just before?) we'll get something on SMTxFE.

I sure do hope so now that SMTIV finally got me into the series which I have started to like an awful lot! Enough so that I now want to go back and sample the early days of the series Smilie. I wonder how they could make it work so that FE characters would recruit demons Smilie.

Nah it's just vaporware. Intelligent Systems is too busy working on codename steam & this when despite being early in development the game was announced TWO YEARS AGO WITH NO INFO SINCE. face it, SMTXFE is dead.

Well, we just don't know. It's very possible they have reworked SMTxFE into this new 3DS game, but Atlus was supposed to be handling the majority of development of SMTxFE.

The fact we've had not even a single screenshot since its announcement two years ago is very worrying. If we don't hear a peep at E3, then I think it's safe to assume it's been canned or has been reworked into this 3DS game.

You're fine to believe it's dead now, though. I have no evidence to the contrary given that Nintendo refuses to release anything on it.

That better not happen. See this is why people love nintendo handhelds but HATE nintendo home consoles like the fact that wii u will sell worse than that overrated abomination known as the dreamcast.

I think it's a possibility given how much better the 3DS market is than Wii U. I can see a lot of positives for why they'd go that route with the game, but I do hope it's not been completely abandoned. We'll see come E3, I think.

I can't see that. people say the wii u needs more games and yet NOBODY BOUGHT THEM!

FE X SMT is not definite vaporware yet. Keep in mind at the time it was being developed, Atlus's parent company went bankrupt. That'll put a damper on things. Plus Persona 5 is probably their main focus, and right around the same time the bankruptcy happened, they started porting P5 to PS4 as well.

Not to mention SMT IV, Devil Survivor 2, two Etrian Odysseys, and Persona Q. Atlus and IS are both very busy companies.

That said, last E3 Nintendo said the game was still on track for 2015. It wouldn't surprise me to see it bumped to early 2016, if for no other reason than to space out their big titles (Wii U sees Splatoon in the spring, Xenoblade in summer-fall, and Zelda in winter, most likely, and who knows where Star Fox fits in there). But it's most likely still happening.

Now, if we haven't seen anything by the time TGS is over, I'd be worried. But it's early in the year, and Nintendo pretty rarely cancels already-announced games. I won't write it off just yet.

This makes me obscenely happy.

That zoom into battle animation is awesome. I wonder if the loading time will be greater on old 3DS.

I love this series and I want it to stay, so I'm pretty happy here. A little disappointed at how visually similar it is to Awakening, considering that game severely underutilized the 3DS hardware (it was made for DS and moved up to 3DS late in development, which is why the characters have no feet). Now the characters have feet and there's that animation I mentioned, but otherwise it looks the same. I don't know what I was expecting though, maybe more detailed overworld sprites, though I guess people have probably fallen in love with those by now.

I'm sure this game will have Amiibo support, too. Can't wait to see more.

SMTXFE will get canceled & I will blame sega I'm sick of giving that broke company MY MONEY! >=( no wii u vc, bad nintendo sonic games after colors (like generations 3ds), overhyping sonic lost world, no castle of illusion HD, no aliens isolation. Yeah I'm done with sega! >=(

It won't be up to Sega, though. That game probably entered production before Sega bought Atlus, and Sega said they wouldn't interfere with any of Atlus's plans. Even then, I'm sure Nintendo is publishing this one, and Sega is no stranger to letting Nintendo handle their games (Bayonetta 2, for example).

No need to pander to the troll...

I am surprised they opened with this, it's a great announcement for the 3DS , Awakening got a good 80 hours from me and I still have a few side quests to get around to. Probably start playing them in the run up to the release of this one. Although I hope they don't milk us again with DLC, there was too much DLC for awakening, I feel like I missed a lot of stuff by not buying it.

I cant see this being released until mid 2016 in Europe. Maybe late 2015 in Japan but I can't see this being localised this year!

As for SMT X FE, I'd say this is their Wii U option and I'd say it's still happening at one point. It's the type of thing that Nintendo would announce at E3 and then say it's available after their Direct! ....well we can all dream eh!

The back and forth ends now, guys. Either comment on the 3DS game itself or don't comment at all.

The real question is I wonder if Nintendo will blackmail us into buying this one as well? It's nice that they are bringing a new Fire Emblem out but I don't want them to think that if it doesn't sell equal/more than awakening that We aren't interested anymore.

Especially when there is most likely 2 Fire Emblem games coming out next year!
