Xenoblade Chronicles X is 5x Bigger than Xenoblade on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

A wealth of new details for Xenoblade Chronicles X have poured in, including character creation and a vast overworld.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is said to take on a far more open world approach, compared to its Wii predecessor, featuring eight affiliated unions to join, each with their own objectives. Players will venture out with a four character party, with AI controlling three.

The eight different unions, or factions, for quests are:

  • Pathfinder - Installs data probes.
  • Interceptor - Exterminates protists.
  • Avalanche - Hunts down dangerous life forms.
  • Testament - Scavenges for debris from the ship and lost items on the battlefield.
  • Corepedian - Investigates areas and collects materials.
  • Land Bank - Secure resources and mine for minerals.
  • Arms - Develop Dolls (mecha) and their weapons
  • Companion - Well rounded union
Players will be able to customise gender, face, skin colour, eyes, make-up, hai and voice for their avatars, with the designs penned by Kunihiko Tanaka (Xenogears, Xenosaga Episode I).

Despite sharing a name with Xenoblade Chronicles, the Wii U sequel will focus on a bigger sense of freedom, with multiple quests, faster pace with differentiation between close and distant attacks. For those who need to recover in the heat of battle, the game won't feature healer characters, but instead will use a different system called "Soul Voice."

Other details covered in Famitsu include the use of the GamePad, which will display a map and allow adventurers to warp to previously visited locations.

Xenoblade Chronicles X will also feature online functionality, which is being described as "loosely connected."

Musically, the game will feature 90 songs, as composed by Hiroyuki Sawano.

One of the highlights of the report included a look at the scale of the game, with the world of Mira said to be 400km² - over five times bigger than the original Xenoblade.

What are your thoughts on the game so far?

CHARACTER CREATION?!? OMG YEEEEEEES! This is a feture every game ever should have. The hype is sooo high. I love character creation as that allows me to create a character I feel truly comfortable with..

Also, five times the size of Xenoblade? o.O That is HUGE. This game might after MH4U be my biggest timesink this year...

The difference between illusion and reality is vague to the one who suffers from the former and questionable for the one suffering form the later.

lol, concentrating on a bigger sense of Freedom Smilie ? As if the first game didn't already give more freedom than pretty much every JRPG released at the time even on more powerful systems XD. They say this like it was an issue with the first game when actually it was one of its strong points XD.

I'm really excited for this one Smilie. My GOTY for 2015 no doubt.

Compared to WRPGs it was not so free though, and I guess that is with what they compare. Xenoblade Chronicles felt very much like a mix between JRPGs and WRPGs having some of the best elements from both and this with character customization seems to be increasing this factor.

The hype is high. Let it live up to it!

I think what he means by freedom is that Xenoblade Chronicles was linear in it's pathway towards ther areas, but this will be more open.

Important to note that "size" of the world is a little arbitrary. If characters move faster the landscape being bigger just compensates for it.
I mean, it makes things look more epic - but people shouldn't expect a 5 times longer game Smilie

Anyway, I'll be happy if it just has the diversity and "wow" factor the first game had as you see new areas.
