Earlier today, Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata spoke about the company's plans for smart devices.
During the Nintendo Financial Results briefing, Iwata once again touched on a Nintendo and DeNA collaboration, where the partnership will allow the duo to "compete strongly in the smart device space."
The first Nintendo smartphone game is set to be released at the end of 2015, with the company currently shifting staff about to accommodate development.
All of the company's franchises can be considered, but Nintendo is aiming to focus on concepts that work on smart devices, rather than simply porting software with a good track record. Iwata feels that "even with highly popular IP, the odds of success are quite low if consumers cannot appreciate the quality of a game."
With that in mind, even with flexibility in choice, Nintendo plan to "carefully select appropriate IP and titles for our smart device deployment."
The current plan is to release "approximately five titles by the end of the next fiscal year, which is the end of March 2017."
Iwata reassured investors that though this may be a fairly small number, the company want to "thoroughly operate every one of them for a significant amount of time after their releases, this is not a small number at all and should demonstrate our serious commitment to the smart device business."
Eventually smart devices are set to be "one of the pillars of Nintendo's revenue structure."
