Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has shared a bit of backstory to the company's announced partnership with Universal.
Earlier this month Nintendo and Universal came together to devise Nintendo theme park attractions based on the company's growing number of household names. Discussion first happened when Iwata visited the US on a business trip and had met the folk from NBCUniversal about the idea of a theme park business.
The possibility of Nintendo attractions had been discussed often internally, but "on each occasion, the time was not ripe yet or we were not able to find an appropriate partner with whom to work," Iwata admitted.
However, after a "very detail proposal" from Universal Parks & Resorts, and after learning what the company had done with the Harry Potter attractions, Iwata felt that both companies "share a lot of common ground between our corporate cultures," and so the pair aim to "work together on a long-term basis."
