How the Nintendo Universal Partnership Came to be on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has shared a bit of backstory to the company's announced partnership with Universal.

Earlier this month Nintendo and Universal came together to devise Nintendo theme park attractions based on the company's growing number of household names. Discussion first happened when Iwata visited the US on a business trip and had met the folk from NBCUniversal about the idea of a theme park business.

The possibility of Nintendo attractions had been discussed often internally, but "on each occasion, the time was not ripe yet or we were not able to find an appropriate partner with whom to work," Iwata admitted.

However, after a "very detail proposal" from Universal Parks & Resorts, and after learning what the company had done with the Harry Potter attractions, Iwata felt that both companies "share a lot of common ground between our corporate cultures," and so the pair aim to "work together on a long-term basis."

What attractions from Nintendo would you like to see?

I cannot wait to hear more about this.

Obviously we don't have much to go on, but it sounds like they are looking more towards making Nintendo areas (think Harry Potter or Springfield) as opposed to just a single ride or too (think Transformers).

DKC Minecart Madness rollercoaster...Make it so Iwata-san!

Universal's Marvel licence is expiring soon so I suspect that the Marvel zone will become the Nintendo zone (or Land) , they'd rebrand Spider-Man, Hulk, Dr Doom etc into Nintendo rides. This will be particularly exciting!

I used to to work at Universal in Florida and loved every second of it!

The Marvel rights are in perpetuity. Basically as long as the Marvel section stays open, Universal can use the rights.

Word is you are not allowed to talk to other people while on the ride, but you can use pre-defined phrases while you are waiting in line.

Oh snap. xD You didn't just go there. Smilie

The attraction I demand is Rosalina's Spaceship. A high speed rollercoaster. Would be sooo awesome!

The difference between illusion and reality is vague to the one who suffers from the former and questionable for the one suffering form the later.
