Slightly Mad: Project CARS Wii U Was Always a Maybe on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Developer Slightly Mad Studios has shed some light on the Wii U development situation for Project CARS.

Despite Project CARS Wii U planned for release in 2015, the game has seen numerous delays and shifted to after the launch of the core platforms. Recently, Ian Bell noted how Project CARS Wii U could be cancelled due to an underperforming build.

Since his initial statement, Bell clarified that Project CARS was "always 'maybe' as we had no knowledge of the system." He noted how the bulk of funding came when the project was initially a PC-only racing title.

Despite issues with developing for Nintendo's machine, Bell confirmed how "we still haven't given up on Wii U 100% but if we can't make it work we will move to the next Nintendo machine."

Do you believe that the Wii U version was always a "maybe" and did you pledge support for Project CARS with Wii U in mind?

Sounds fair to me. PS3 and 360 versions were scrapped too, after all. At least they aren't ruling it out for Wii U and are still trying with it, and if not, NX should be the logical way to go, especially if the system comes sooner than later.

Funny your right ....but i hate logic.....Plus the Wii U needs racers.....if i remeber correctly there is only a hand full including mario kart Need for speed plus some indies coming.....Mabey they could release  the title on both Wii U and NX like sony did with PS2 PS3 and now PS4 final fantasy X/X2.......im optimistic they still will get it on Wii U  8-Smilie

I'm ready to believe, given the software tech they developed, that the Wii U truly is struggling to render the game, even with very fine tuned programming tricks, since it's so advanced after all. It's a shame that it could not come to Wii U after all, as that would have filled a crucial gap in the library of the system, but what you gonna do? They can't just release a 23FPS version of the game for Wii U just to fill that gap, that would damage the image of the title more than anything and hamper commercial performance of a future potential NX version IMHO.

However, the Wii U always having been a "maybe", when it was announced for that system long before the other two, and the excuse that they "didn't know the system" sound a bit far-fetched. They didn't know the other two consoles either, I'm pretty sure they weren't even out yet when this title was announced originally for PC and then Wii U. All they could be sure of was that they were going to be very powerful indeed and surely enough so to run their game decently.

We'll see what happens in the end.

Their excuse doesn't just sound a bit far-fetched, Rudy, it's utter BS and completely contradicts the evidence what they have said in the past. Anyone remember the statement quoted below from September 2014? Because I do. This also wasn't the only time they've praised the Wii U version and said how it's more than capable of providing the core Project CARS experience. If the core game became much more demanding late in development due to added features and whatnot - to the point that the Wii U version went from this praise to an underperforming build - they should have just come out and said that. Sure, some people would have gotten mad at them anyway but that would have still been a better solution than this pathetic damage control.

So when we say the wii u version is delayed in 2015 because we need a little more time, that's all it is. We just want to make sure it's of the same standard of all the other games. To do that, we just need a little more time. I've seen the wii u version, i've seen it quite regularly. It's got dynamic time of day, weather - it looks phenomenal. And the actual console itself is quite good.

You'd have to be more than just slightly mad to get a 'maybe' out of this quote. We all know that the Wii U has inferior hardware, but that doesn't excuse this laughable PR. Just say it how it is and officially cancel the port while you're at it, we all know it's not happening at this point.

Ah yeah, I must say I didn't go round refreshing my mind about what they said before. Had a vague memory of them saying that the Wii U version wouldn't be crap compared to the others but that's about it. Indeed, when you put that in that perspective, it really is more far-fetched than Farfetch'd itself :p.

Yeah what a lot of crap. The game went beyond the WiiU's capabilities. No need to throw some 'always maybe' rubbish out. The praise and assurance they kept giving over the WiiU versions + all the WiiU listings on the trailers and websites don't say maybe to me.

It's a shame the WiiU version got pushed out of the circle but this Ian guy's attempt at brushing it off is just sad.

We just need Nintendo to give us F-Zero and Project Cars will be forgotten haha Smilie
