New Metroid Prime Likely to be on the Nintendo NX on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe feels that the next game will be on the new Nintendo NX console.

Fans have craved a new Metroid title - regardless of 2D or 3D - for some time now, after the mixed reception for Metroid: Other M. Then came Metroid Prime: Federation Force, announced this week at E3 as a spin-off multiplayer title.

But what about the adventures of a certain bounty hunter? If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo's NX console," said Tanabe in an interview with Eurogamer

He teased ideas that involved a planet that has a time-shifting mechanic, which is just one of the concepts he had in mind - but he feels that "many people thought that [Metroid Prime 2: Echoes] was too difficult."

With a new game, Tanabe woudld like a new Metroid Prime title to be a numbered release too, starting a new trilogy.

For the moment, he isn't thinking about partnering with another studio and has nothing to announce just yet.

Would you like to see a new Metroid - if so, 2D or 3D?

Yeah, kinda saddens me to think they haven't even started making a new 3D Metroid -sigh- I dunno if they're doing a Majora, and pretending they haven't, but I kinda doubt it with the way he talks about the story ideas he has so openly. If that was already being worked on, he'd keep the ideas quiet, I imagine. The wait continues for another three years at least.

We might be in the middle of that same drought that lasted 8 years in-between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. Other M was released in what... 2010 or 2011? I can't quite recall anymore. Anyway, we've known a longer wait than what we've waited since the last one, so it's not exactly like there's no precedent.

Personally I like that they do not attempt to mix a proper Metroid and multiplayer anymore. I hated Metroid Prime Hunters for trying to focus too much on multiplayer and leaving the solo to be mediocre at best. For me they're doing the right thing in making the Federation forces the playable caracters in a multiplayer focused one, though I still hope for some cannon story to back it up in a solo mode, but since this isn't meant to be a proper Metroid, I won't be pissed at them the way I was with Hunters if there's no solo at all, cause there's no "series expectation" for such a title.

I think the days of seeing Nintendo's smaller franchises are gone. They are probably working on one at a time and put all focus on milking Zelda and Mario. Then rotate DK, Yoshi, Kirby games while we all openly want Starfox, Fzero and Metroid....

Dont get me started on wanting a 1080, Waverace, Pikmin (handheld).

The only surprise is that Fire Emblem still gets love which I'm very happy with!

I do hope we're going to get a surprise Metroid Prime from Retro, for Wii U. The system is only 2.5yrs old, I don't like this atmosphere of the system being ready for the graveyard in favor if NX.
