Nintendo could venture into movies or TV programs, says Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata.
In a meeting with shareholders after E3, Iwata was asked whether Nintendo aim to be "more proactive in releasing character-related merchandise or figures", whether released by Nintendo themselves or external companies.
Iwata highlighted the need to "establish a global structure to deploy such business," with various ideas in mind for licensing across Japan, North America and Europe. The plans won't be limited to merch, as "it may take various forms including, for example, images or even movies or TV programs."
Iwata suggested that whilst "Nintendo will take risks," the company will still need to be "making appropriate decisions that will enhance our overall corporate value over the long term," to avoid runinging the value of the Nintendo IP.
