Whilst digging through a loft of old belongings, one Reddit user has found a Sony/Nintendo PlayStation Prototype.
It seems like a distant memory, and one that could have very well have altered the game industry that came after it - back in the early '90s, Nintendo and Sony were working together on an accessory to add CD capabilities to the SNES.
In addition, Sony would release a console called PlayStation that would be capable of playing SNES cartridges and games that were designed for the SNES CD system, as well.
The deal fizzled out when Nintendo ended up working with Philips to create the ill-fated Philips CD-i. Despite Nintendo not working on the CD-i software, titles with Nintendo franchises were released. The less said about that particular era, perhaps the better.
Reddit user Analogueboy posted pictures of what appears to be a PlayStation prototype in his dad's belongings, together with a video overview.
Would a PlayStation with SNES back-compatability have worked?
