Cubed3 was in attendance of the VIP launch of the PLAY it! Manchester event today, with retro and cosplay fun galore. Several years ago, the team went down to London to try out various old school gaming goodies, and this year the PLAY it! event came to Manchester for a special VIP event the day before opening to the general public and running from 25h July until 9th August.

From the likes of Super Probotector on SNES to Mega Man on NES, Timesplitters 2 on PlayStation 2, as well as newer titles on Xbox 360 and Wii, there some super retro games and a batch that possibly do not quite fall into the category, but were still great blasts from the past decade or so.

Here are some official details:

Get your game face on this summer and play some of the most popular video games of the past 30 years, from Pong and Pac-Man to Minecraft and Halo. Enter multiplayer competitions, take on your friends or family in collaborative games and play on consoles and gaming systems including Atari, Commodore and Spectrum, Megadrive, SNES and Nintendo 64 through to PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Whether you're a family dropping in for a 90 minute session, a seasoned gamer making the most of our full-day pass, or a night owl visiting our adult-only evening sessions, our 6 themed zones with more than 120 games and consoles will provide more than enough opportunities to test your skills. So come along and PLAY it!

A great time was had by all, especially when having a laugh after realising how poor our gaming skills were after many a year away from the likes of the original Tomb Raider, plus some of the cosplay contingent due to be at this weekend's MCM Comic Con Manchester were in attendance, lifting the atmosphere.

For full details on the PLAY it! event that runs from today until 9th August, be sure to check out the Museum of Science and Industry's official website, and if you want to see all sorts of fun photos from the launch party, including the fantastic cosplayers, check out the Cubed3 Facebook page where there is a dedicated folder full of cool images.
