Nintendo to Shut Down TVii in August on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Wii U owners across North America won't have too much longer to use the Nintendo TVii service, as it'll come to a close in August.

After almost three years, the unique Wii U functionality will be switched off, together with the TVii Miiverse community, Nintendo confirmed last night. TVii will stop functioning from 11th August 20th, 3pm PT.

TVii, which was touted as one of the unique benefits of the Wii U console, allowed folk with selected cable networks to interact with live shows - bridging the gap between video games and television. Unfortunately, after numerous delays, TVii never quite kicked off across the pond in Europe.

We sincerely thank you for all of your engagement within the community and the Nintendo TVii service. We look forward to your contributions within our many other Miiverse communities.

Did you use the TVii service? Should Nintendo work on something similar for their next console?

It did seem like a good idea and one of the more interesting features of the Wii U, but I'm not sure people really used it that much? I guess not, if they're cancelling it.

It appears to be because i.TV announced the shutdown of the TV Tag service and even shutdown their iOS/Android apps earlier this year.
