Square Enix lifted the lid on the next numbered edition of Dragon Quest, the multiplatform Dragon Quest XI.
After a brief stint on Nintendo platforms as exclusives, the series is will return to the PlayStation format with a PlayStation 4 released planned for Dragon Quest XI. There will also be a version of the game for Nintendo 3DS, Square Enix announced during an event earlier today in Japan.
The game, unlike the MMO Dragon Quest X, will be designed as a more traditional single player title, with a distinct experience on each platform too, despite sharing story elements.
The game, according to Square Enix's presser, is being "considered" for launch on Nintendo's new NX platform too - a stretch away from confirmation, but at least a potential entry to Nintendo's currently unknown NX catalogue.
Toy Logic, who helped with the development of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS will be working on the 3DS version, with Akira Toriyama once again bringing his distinct character design to the mix. Interestingly, on the 3DS version, there will be 3D visuals on the top screen, with classic sprites on the lower half for a healthy dose of pixel nostalgia.
