Get mid-level checkpoints in a new Super Mario Maker software update next week.
A free update, coming on 5th November, will bring a range of new content for the game to expand on the flexibility of crafting thrilling, near-impossible and challenging Mario levels.
As well as mid-level checkpoints to tone down the risk (or perhaps even increase it), there will be the option for players to set two flags within courses, allowing players to resume from the last checkpoint if they lose a life. There's also the option to edit/re-upload courses or create new scratches from scratch using this feature.
There'll also be the option to insert status-contextual power-ups in blocks, for example a super Mushroom if Mario is small, or a Fire Flower if he's regular sized like in the regular games.
There'll also be Event Courses to try out in the Course World online hub, with levels designed by partner creators from outside Nintendo. One of the first challenges will be the "Ship Love," the winning level from the Facebook "hackathon" event earlier this year. New Event courses will be added to the list going forward, with some (maybe) featuring new transformations. There'll also be an official set for those wanting to go up against the brains at Nintendo.
In-case you missed it, here's some course creation tips from Nintendo's top designers:
