Itoi: Mother Games are like Pop Albums on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Game writer Shigesato Itoi has explained why a forth Mother game is impossible to create.

Speaking to Japanese website Game Watch Impress (translation via Kotaku), Itoi explained how it is "totally impossible" to create another entry in the popular RPG series. The reason why he designed the third, and seemingly final, Mother game was that "I thought I could do it, so I did it."

Digging deeper into reasons why Mother 4 would be "impossible," he likened games to music albums in how they typically decline in quality.

Among big-time popstars, if they, you know, put out ten albums, around the fourth album, they can't make very good songs. The albums sell, but everyone at the concerts wants to hear songs from those first three albums. Everyone.

I'm glad that video games are not my profession. If it was my job, I would've already made 4 and 5.

Do you think there's scope for Mother 4?
