Nintendo is Looking into Virtual Reality

Nintendo is Looking into Virtual Reality on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

With Nintendo having held its latest financial briefing today, the company touched on virtual reality.

VR is making strides in the videogame and entertainment industries at the moment, with many companies pouncing onto the movement and producing their own experiences. With Nintendo having dabbled in wearable gaming 3D headsets many moons ago, would it be up for a more modern VR experience in this day and age?

Reports from the briefing note how the company is "looking into" the potential for VR technology, but with no further details to discuss at the moment.

Do you think that the NX would incorporate virtual reality tech in some way?

I remember reading speculation for upcoming nintendo consoles in the past.
I really wished nintendo would just blow everybody away and come out with some crazy awesome VR related thing...
Maybe this time?

I still think AR, not VR is more Nintendos thing. Give people the option to turn their living room table into a table tennis, snooker, or airhockey table and then play with someone on the other side of the world?
Thats a Wii-Sports level hit that easily.
Mass market appeal.
(and thats before we get started on the Pokemon potential )

By comparison, hocking up a Rift to play ELITE - well, thats my sort of thing, but I think it wouldnt have nearly the same mass appeal.

The other thing is Nintendo would be hard pushed to do this alone - both VR and AR tech is darn hard to get right. Latency and Tracking issues - not to mention the cost of the units themselves. Very tricky.  Remember a Rift is many hundreds of pounds ontop of a beefy PC machine you need to run one.

If Nintendo partnered with Goog...Alphabeta...on their Magic Leap tech, it would at least give them a leg up on the hmd technical side so they can concentrate on the controller and games.
It would still probably be too far away from being a mass market price, but they would be fools for thinking short term on this one.

i hope ther look and move on. we are years away from VR being mainstream. we have sort of had a reverse VR already with the wii/wiiu,wiiremote and gamepad. besides VR as it is goes against everything nintendo has tried to acheive with their home consoles. its very solitary and i cant see mutiplayer VR being affordble any time soon.

the nx should support VR, just in case some studio manages to make a stella must have VR experience but nintendo should just leave it to third parties and enable support for existing VR units
