Sony Details Price and Launch Window For PlayStation VR on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Sony has finally released major details for its PlayStation VR. It has now announced the VR headset will launch in October of this year. Even more significant, the company also announced the price point, which is an MSRP of £349.99/€399.99/US$399.99/AUD$549.95/NZD$629.95. This places the PlayStation VR significantly under both the Oculus Rift and the Hive in terms of price.

Sony also announced that more than 230 developers are currently working on software for the PlayStation VR, and there will be more than 50 games available at launch. These do not include the six games that come in The Playroom VR, a free virtual environment that comes with every headset.

It is worth noting that a PlayStation Camera is required to run the headset. While the Move is apparently optional, the headset does not come with either device bundled in at this time, although a Move/Camera VR bundle for the North America region has been confirmed for the future.

This is exactly why I don't think VR is viable. This is the cheapest one yet and it costs as much as the entire Playstation 4. And it's good for a handful of what look like they'd be minigames in bigger releases or ad-funded F2Ps on phones.

Maybe I'm just looking at the wrong games, but I have yet to see anything for VR that Nintendo didn't do with their free AR app on the 3DS years ago. It was free, didn't require extra peripherals... and got boring after ten minutes.
