Sales | Nintendo GameCube Ahead in Germany!

GameCube Strong in Germany...
...Even Outselling the XBOX!

With sales of Nintendo's GameCube being extremely dismal over here in the UK, it would be a fair assumption that what was the case for the largest gaming territory in Europe is reflective of the entire continental situation. However, it has come to our attention that over in Germany the Nintendo GameCube is actually on a bit of a hot streak!

Believe it or not the GameCube took a plentiful share of 26% in the country where Nintendo usually struggles during the period of June, which means it overtook the surging Microsoft XBOX. In addition to this, and even more pleasing, is that 52% of the software sold in Germany during Q1 and Q2 of 2004 belonged to Nintendo!

Since launching in Germany, the GC has only sold 600,000 units, but thankfully 100,000 of those were actually sold in the first half of this year! The reason behind this is speculated upon by Dr. Bernd Fakesch, the General Manager of Nintendo Germany, with him reckoning that the upturn is due to familiar franchises such as Mario and Zelda retaining their strong popularity.

Now if only Nintendo could sort out the situation in the UK...
