Nintendo Switch to be Region Free on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Want to play games from around the globe on Nintendo Switch? The Japanese game maker has confirmed that the console will not be region locked.

During the Nintendo Switch broadcast this morning, the gaming giant confirmed that the upcoming Switch console will not be restricted by region. Prior to the launch of the 3DS, fans had been able to purchase handheld games from their travels around the globe, or import that rare gem from Japan. Nintendo home consoles, on the other hand, have traditionally been bound by the region it was purchased in - typically North America, Japan and Europe/Australia.

The new Nintendo Switch hardware, which offers both portable and at-home play, will do away with the restrictions and serve up the opportunity to purchase titles from around the globe.

Has the lack of region locking strengthened the console's appeal?
