Release Update | Nintendo Revolution for 2006?

Nintendo Revolution for 2006...
...In Time for the PS3?

In a recent interview with IGNCube, Reggie Fils-Aime provided some very interesting news updates on the matter of the Nintendo Revolution, the company's next home console after the GameCube.

According to the 'ass-kicking, name-taking' Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Nintendo, the company will very much follow Sony's schedule for its launch of the PlayStation 3 console. In other words, Nintendo is chasing the leader of the current pack and will hope to do with the Revolution what it is currently doing with the DS - in other words, not go out all with the power features, but use cunning and past-knowledge to craft a platform that intrigues not only gamers, but developers so much that they will prefer the challenge to Sony's 'more of the same' approach.

Therefore it looks like when Sony announces the specific date in 2006 for the release of the PS3, Nintendo will make sure the Revolution is not too far behind it. However, Sir Reginald of Nintendo clearly states that the threat of Microsoft and its XBOX2/Xenon machine is not being ignored. Whilst the threat is always going to be there from a firm with such financial backing, Mr Fils-Aime continues, stating how Nintendo as a whole generally believes that rushing out a new system is a sure-fire way of making un-rectifiable mistakes.

So the Revolution could be heading our way in 2006. Certainly not too different from what we already knew, but at least it has now been confirmed that Nintendo is after Sony's throat...
