Daedalic Entertainment has been hard at work for many years now on The Lord of the Rings: Gollum (Gollum) and it looks like it is paying off. They have previously discussed its vision for the game as a stealth action title featuring its own style and take on the world of The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkein, all undertaken alongside Middle-Earth Enterprises to ensure the content is authentic.
Daedalic Entertainment is happy to announce that Gollum will be hitting PlayStation 4, Xbox and PC on the 1st September, 2022! Console gamers can indulge in a physical release if they are so inclined, but Switch owners will need to wait a little longer with a version for the platform confirmed as coming later in the year.
Players can expect a "behind-the-scenes'' look at Gollum's backstory, framed from the perspective of the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring, all the while enjoying the inner conflict of Gollum and Smeagol as they climb and stealth their way through a unique version of Middle-Earth that takes Gollum from Barad-dûr to Mirkwood and more. Meet fan favourites and new characters alike, where dialogue choices drive the outcomes of certain scenes. Explore and sneak using Gollum's unique senses and skills to work around adversaries and avoid the watchful eyes of Sauron's minions.
This visually unique vision of Lord of the Rings' world looks excellent, with superb level design and a graphical style reminiscent of artwork created for Tolkein's work. If the gameplay can back this up in an enjoyable way, as it looks like it is achieving, then the 1st September will be an excellent day for The Lord of the Rings and licensed game fans everywhere.
