WWE Wrestlemania 19: Preview!
Game Data

The days have past when AKI developed the WWE games for THQ on the Nintendo 64, and to be honest it has not been the same since! Why? Well for some reason AKI was dropped in favour of the Smackdown creators Yukes, which the obvious reason was because the Smackdown series had a greater following of fans due to the success of the Playstation. Now everyone (especially me!) was a bit annoyed about this, as they (and Me!) were hoping for a great sequel to the excellent hit WWE No Mercy on the Nintendo 64. But when the final version of Wrestlemania X18 hit the shelves, everyone was very disappointed with the final product. And when we say disappointed, we mean massively disappointed! (Probably not as disappoint as WWF Attitude by Acclaim though!)

Anyway Yukes (well a new team including members of the AKI team) are trying again by developing the next instalment and the surprising title of Wrestlemania X19 (shock horror!) And we here at Cubed3 have the a massive batch of screenshots and information for you! So look below and enjoy the screens.

Information:

  • Blood will be in the game

So finally since Wrestlemania 2000 on the Nintendo 64, we will be seeing blood re-emerge on to the wrestling scene, since it was taken out due to the WWE not wanting the games to look to violent! Since that game of the games (including the whole Smackdown series) had not blood in them. Well check below to see the first screenshots of a bloodied Undertaker as he battles the ultra small Rey Mysterio!

  • Much more advanced grappling system

This time around Yukes have taken the grapple system back to how WWE No Mercy used it. Using the GameCube controller, the current control scheme breaks down as follows:

  • Tap A + direction: Initiate Weak Grapple
  • Hold A, then press A or B + direction for either a strong grapple or strike variation: Initiate Strong Grapple
  • B + direction: Strike Attack
  • L button: Grapple Reversal
  • R button: Strike Reversal:
  • L + R buttons: Special Move Reversal
  • A + down: Pin
  • Wiggle control stick: Kick Out of Pins/Submissions
  • Y + control stick: Run/Get In and Out of Ring
  • X + Control Stick: Pick Up Weapon
  • A + B, then press A + B again to perform during a 10 second limit: Initiate Special Move

The strong a weak grapple makes a welcome return back to the Nintendo WWE games. It allowed players to experience a wide range of moves in the game, which was great as many gamers were not happy with the Wrestlemania X8 set up.

  • A new development team consisting of Yuke's and former AKI members. (Won't be the same team as last year)

  • Storyline mode

The story mode this time, will takes players on a conquest of back-stage revenge against ringleader Vince McMahon, which is now set to offer WWE fans some brand-new play mechanics, such as climbing and hanging from structures and interacting with these real-world environments in ways that other Wrestlemania games have never attempted.
The story mode is a bit different but gies something like this: Vince kicks you out of the WWE and you're forced to work you way back to the top. You'll have to embark on all sorts of matches, including some dangerously
outlandish ones, to get your main-event status back. As the wins pile up, you earn cash that can be used in the WWE Shopzone. Here you can purchase new outfits for numerous characters, unlock arenas, and more.

  • Path of a champion

Its taken form Wrestlemania, but failed due to good ideas done wrong. But in the sequel they have said to improve and add things to this mode to make it much better.

  • All wrestlers have been re-created (They will be less cartoonish, as you saw in last year's WrestleMania X8)

  • More in-depth Create a Superstar mode

  • The game will be simulation based (Faster then WWE RAW for XBox, but slower than WWE SmackDown! SYM for PS2)

  • Location specific damage

This means that we will see real things happening. For example, we won’t see Big Show being power slammed by Spike Dudley. Also each body part will have a different number of damage places, so if Triple H is working on your right leg, after time, you will start to hold your right leg.

  • Over 50 WWE Superstars with their own unique entrances: (The Superstars can be confirmed are: The Rock, Steve Austin, Rey Mysterio, The Undertaker, Big Show, Kurt Angle, Hulk Hogan, Scott Steiner, Booker T, Triple H, Brock Lesnar, and Vince McMahon.)

But the big question on the internet is. Will Goldberg make the game?

This has got me all excited over it again, and it seems to always happen! Hopefully THQ and the Yukes team, will be able to hit a home run and create a excellent wrestler to rival the (going to be a hit) Def Jam Vendetta. Now I will have to wait till the end of the year to get my hands on Wrestlemania! Damn!

    [Anticipation Rating: 4/5]
