GBA:SP European Launch Statistics

By James Temperton 05.04.2003 1

The Whole World in our Hand...Nintendo will be in high spirits after they managed to shift over half of their original European stocks in just one weekend.

Nintendo Of Europe are reported to have set aside 400,000 units for the launch period of 6 weeks and have already clocked up sales of over 200,000. Just for you stats nuts, we can reveal the following:

  • 50% of people who bought the GBA:SP last week were first time console buyers and not the Nintendo faithful

  • The average age of a person buying the console was 23, the highest of any Nintendo console ever

  • David Gosen managed once again to tell the press nothing with a totaly useless speech: "To have over fifty percent of purchasers as first-time buyers is exactly on strategy to grow the hand-held market,"

With this, Nintendo have now passed their targets for the first quarter in the handheld department. Now lets just hope some of these good sales can be copied on the GameCube area...
