Gruntilda
The moronic witch of the West…

Profile by Adam Riley < jesusraz ~ Sub Editor :: Head Writer >

Introduction

Every story has to have an evil villain at its heart and the Banjo-Kazooie series from British outfit, and former Nintendo stalwart, Rare was no different. Both bird and bear has to constantly fend off the bumblesome crone in order to save the day. Want to know more about her? You crazy fool...
Statistics

Age:Age means nothing to a supernatural magic user. However, looking at the old hag there is a strong chance she could easily be in the three-digit range by now!

Species: She looks like she is meant to be human, but oh my how she certainly is nothing like you or me...well, not me anyway! How many people do you know can resurrect themselves and only survive in skeletal form? What?! THAT many??

Location: Gruntilda's lair is the primary abode for the wiley witch, and it is hardly a tricky place to locate since it is within the confines of a mountain adorned with her mug on the outside, with the actual entrance being through her stone mouth! And that is not the only place she reigns over, as there are places such as Clanker's Cavern, Grunty Industries and Witchyworld!

Birth: If Grunty takes after her mother, then who on Earth would want to know her? *Shudders*

Main Features: Her skin is a murky green and she has a lovely set of warts. She also has large goggly eyes, plus is rather on the rotund side. Well, until later in the series when she takes mechanical form...and even just pure bone structure!

Clothing: Being a sterotypical witch, Grunty dons a black pointy hat, long, dark robes and pointy shoes. She also has a long, purple scarf to keep her warm and used to fly around on a trusty broomstick (before it was broken in half during the final battle of Banjo-Kazooie).
Concept

Gruntilda Winkybunion, to give her the full title she so really does not deserve, is actually a sad old lady who is mocked by her wicked sisters and clings to her lackey assistant, Klungo. She longs to look as beautiful as Banjo the Bear's little sister Tooty, even though she actually amazingly believes she already has some sort of alluring charm. Evil, pure, malicious evil she is...
Appearances

  • Banjo-Kazooie (N64)
  • Banjo-Tooie (N64)
  • Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (GBA)
  • Banjo Pilot (GBA)
  • Grunty is definitely the archnemesis of Banjo-Kazooie, therefore she will likely never be omitted from future games, just as Bowser is hardly ever left out of Mario adventures. With four games under her belt so far, and only minor set-backs rather than complete obliteration, Gruntilda is most certainly set to make a return in the next adventure, be it for XBOX 360 or, as rumoured, the Nintendo DS.
    Best Appearance

It would definitely have to be her début in Banjo-Kazooie, not particularly for her evil prowess, but more the absolutely hilariously corny rhyming she used in almost every single conversation.
    Do Not Mention...

Cheato, a magical book that used to belong to Grunty, but betrayed her by helping Banjo and Kazooie out by providing them with extremely useful cheats. Unfortunately after she found out, poor Cheato had his pages ripped out and scattered across the land...
    In closing...

Those who think we have seen the last of Gruntilda are sadly mistaken as just like any other videogame evil there is no resting, merely more underhand shenanigans to pursue. It is only a matter of time before she returns...
