First Screens | The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

By Jorge Ba-oh 23.03.2006 14

A surprise announcement came earlier with confirmation of a brand spanking new Zelda adventure for the DS.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is Link's latest quest as he treads through dangerous ground once more to save the world. Currently Nintendo haven't disclosed much about the game, but have certainly highlighted the more interesting aspects - the touch screen. It seems players have a much more hands on approach with the Hylian hero for drawing movement seems like a major feature of this exciting title.

Link is rendered in gorgeous cell-shaded 3D style with the same animated expressions and quirky movements from GameCube's Wind Waker. Accompanying him is a fairy, whom we presume is Navi, with the same voice we know you love to hear. "Link..!" she cries... for no apparent reason. Musically, Phantom Hourglass also seems to boast the iconic Dark World theme from the SNES's Link to the Past, a real treat for fans of the series.

Cubed3's worko-holic news team have sorted out a set of fab screen grabs from the title to view. Be sure to also check out the http://www.cubed3.com/news/4798">videos that simply ooze pure Nintendo style.

Catchy name

"Study this revelation, you nest of adders!"

The official art is very different to WW's, much better in fact.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

You must be kidding, that art work looks way worse than the WW - much younger and more Japanese, which I suppose you might like if you were a fan of the Pokemon cartoon. What's with the screen of OoT on one of the scans though? ..Presuming it is OoT.

I don't know, it just looks better to me, which is odd as i hate manga. It just suits the more light-hearted style of the game. WW took itself a bit too seriously I think.

Looks ace.. but the screens switching looks a bit confusing. Time will tell. Smilie

Whoa..it's gone all super cute.

XBL Gamertag: James2t3

A bit too cutsy

They should have stuck to WWs official art, this looks MORE babyish.

this looks MORE babyish

Exactly, to suit the more babyish game.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Looks to be completely controlled by the stylus and has some 'new' features to the Zelda series. I personally can't wait...wonder if Flagship will be involved again?

Well, looks like Tingle's back. And there were seven Links in one of those shots, it won't come to a surprise to a lot of people but connectivity will obviouisly play a part in this game.

Shut up. I refer you to post #2.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Well, there's an official story about those images here: http://www.cubed3.com/news/5008/

So why not move the discussion to over there since it's the newest topic? Thanks! Smilie
