E3 2006 News | Metroid Prime 3

By Barry Lewis 18.04.2006 36

Speaking in his IGN blog Matt Cassamina, resident Nintendo fan, has revealed that Metroid Prime 3 is guaranteed to be at E3 and furthermore will be "fully playable".

We can only speculate that this (rather predictable) mini revelation indicates a very advanced development status and that the much-anticipated flagship title is well on track for launch day. Matt also revealed his full confidence in both the development team at Retro Studios and the quality of MP3, with the following personal comment:

"I have full confidence in Retro to make Prime 3 one of, if not the must-have game of E3 2006. This will be the game that shows all other companies how to do first-person gameplay with the Revolution controller."

I had an awesome (though slightly sad, I admit) dream about MP3 at E3 last night, after reading about this. If the game is even half as good as I dreamed it could be...wow.

And cheers Karn, with Adam not able to access the Admin panel at work I'll probably be upping my news reporting Smilie

Yay for MP3!!Smilie Oh I cant wait 'till I get it in my hands! But I guess I have to complete MP2:Echoes first...or atleast play little on it.Smilie

Huzzah!! Now, soon enough we'll see just how much headway has been made since the last small clip from the game!

Yay! Hopefully they learned a thing or two form NST on the multiplayer side.

After the boring, badly designed Echoes, I can't get very excited about this. Willing to be pleasantly surprised, though.

It really should be, games don't just vanish off the map after being announced.

Yay!

Cool! Let's hope it's as impressive as Metroid Prime and the Revolution controller is used to the fullest.

The nun-chuck attachment was added FOR THIS GAME. It's bound to be awesome.

What's even more exciting though is what Retro will do next...

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Hopefully there'll be some new stuff, I don't want Metroid getting stale (like unique ways to use the controller etc)

As long as it has things to shoot, very large things, to shoot.

It wasn't badly designed, it was more or less the same, which was nice - but you're right - it did get a bit boring.

I though it was much better structured than mp1, and there was much more interesting architecture and varied art-styles.

There are really no key aspects missing from Echoes that made Prime so great.
It keeps the great lone bounty hunter feeling Prime had, with the added tension of being hunted by Dark Samus. It also keeps the great open worlds ready to explore, although maybe the colour coded doors restricted the feeling of going where you liked. The bosses are more impressive, Quadraxis being a prime example and the graphics are gorgeous.
I felt Echoes main drawbacks were founded in the fact that the music did not live up to the high standards Prime set, and it did not really captivate me in the same way Prime did.
It is still a brilliant game and definitely one of Cube's best.

Oh, and this news has really made my day. Metroid Prime 3 playable.....*drools*

You should read into the histry of retro studios to see why they were canned....it's a miracle Metroid Prime actually turned out good.

It's because Miyamoto scared them into being a good developer with his ten minute long Japanese swearing sessions Smilie Smilie

Edit, missed quote.

Can't wait to see it, although I'm not sure I'll actually end up getting the game. I found the first two quite dull to be honest.

Hopefully the rev features will spice it up a bit. Smilie

Wasn't there supposed to be a preview video of the game at last years E3 but instead just showed a 10 second movie clip?

It'll be interesting to see whats added (other than revmote use) to seperate this from the last 2. Hopefuly the multiplayer will be online.
