Industry News | New Nintendo Mag from Edge Editor

I[/size][/b]n what will definitely be pleasing news for fans of UK magazine Super Play from 'back in the 16-bit hey-day', Tony Mott has moved on from his role of Editor at EDGE magazine to oversee a new non-official Nintendo publication. Could this turn out to be the successor to the flagging NGC Magazine? Nintendo has previously stated it wants at least two dedicated magazines under the Future Publishing label, so it would make sense.

In any case, this means that EDGE will see a re-shuffle of its staff, according to Gameplanet.co.nz. Previous Deputy Editor Margaret Robertson will take the reigns on the publication now, whilst Tony Mott will remain close to EDGE. His role now, though, will be 'Editor-in-Chief', helping to guide to magazine's direction in the future.

James Binns, Group Publisher of Edge, had this to say:

"Both Margaret and Tony's promotions are suitable rewards for their contributions in taking Edge from strength to strength. The magazine's circulation has increased over every six-month ABC period since Tony's appointment as Editor in 2003, it now has the highest sales figure (sic) in its 13-year-history, and its staff have just won Magazine Team of the Year at the MCV Industry Excellence Awards, so this is a great time for Margaret to pick up the baton. She is respected by our readers and the industry alike and it will be exciting to see how the magazine evolves under her editorship."

And Margaret Robertson, clearly overjoyed at such quick promotion since her arrival in 2003, was quoted as saying:

"I'm thrilled to have been appointed Editor. It has been a very interesting journey from being a reader of the magazine to its editor and I relish the chance to take on Edge at such an exciting time for gaming. Together with a talented team, I intend to build on our recent successes and continue Edge's tradition of breaking new ground."

Will Edge be improved for the better and when will the new unofficial Nintendo magazine arise? Questions will be answered, but patience is required for now.

I'm not quite sure whether I think this is the follow up to NGC or an entirely new magazine. I think I'm plumping for the latter - will be nice to have a few Nintendo magazines on the market again!

I used to get Cube, but I didn't get it until 4 months after it had been released ('cause I live in Aus). Any news of a new Australian mag coming out?

Great news and great stuff from Future. I am looking forward to seeing what is in store for this new magazine. Being an unofficial Nintendo publication can only mean more information/speculation that official can't usually state along with a second point of view regarding Nintendo as a whole.

Hopefully it will be a new publication. Having three Nintendo magazines on the shelve can only be a good thing.

Basically CUBE folded with it. Chandra Nair, the editor of CUBE, is now at ONM.
