Nintendo News | Konami Announces Elebits for Revolution

According to the latest information from Japanese publication Famitsu magazine, Konami Digital Entertainment is set to bring a new game to the Nintendo Revolution.

Update: More details have now been uncovered regarding the announcement of Elebits from Konami on Nintendo's Revolution system. It turns out that Shingo Mukaitouge, who people will know for his involvement in both the Guitar Freaks and Drum Mania series, will be the producer behind the game. Famitsu magazine only goes into minor detail, but it still proves to be quite an exclusive for the publication.

In the game, players have to roam around the world trying to get their hands on strange little creatures called 'Elebits', which are hidden in various locations. These Elebits are extremely small, but are extremely important as they are actually the main source of energy in the actual gaming world! So far it has been revealed via IGN Revolution that the 'Ele' part stands for electricity, whilst the 'Bits' is meant to signify the tiny nature of the creatures. The more of them that you find, the more the world around you will slowly begin to evolve, but it will be quite a task to try and locate them all as they are terribly elusive, increasing the overall challenge.

Mukaitouge-san was actually interviewed in this latest issue of Famitsu, stating that the design plan behind Elebits is three-fold. The aim was to let the player feel as if they were indeed inside the screen controlling the action, that they could move things around to find stuff and discover the new Konami creations, the Elebits themselves.

The Revolution's controller is integral to the experience, as is strongly evident in the first two stages that were discussed. Konami was extremely keen to create something that could not easily be mimicked on a standard controller, for systems such as the PlayStation 3 and/or XBOX 360. Being able to move objects in real-time just by moving the controller around is something special indeed.

Konami is currently beavering away at perfecting the one-player experience, with some stages being simple ten minute affairs, whilst hardcore gamers will be kept enraptured due to the wealth of secret content. Once this single-player mode has been sufficiently dealt with during the development process, though, Konami is planning on taking a look at implementing network functionality!

Elebits should be shown at E3 in just under two week's time.

Looks like 3rd party support is returning to Nintendo in droves.:0)

Let's hope it stays like that throughout Rev/DS and the generations beyond...

It really seems like the revolution has opened up developers and publishers alike to the possibilities of new games. It's probably because games for the Rev won't have to be stupidly large "action adventure set in a free roaming world" (soooooo last gen).

So cheap development, a clever idea and a relatively small team could well lead to much higher profits for most companies.

The main exception to this is probably EAs production line of high gloss, low substance, license heavy sports titles. In their case it doesn't matter how good your idea is or how low the development costs of the platform are if the majority of your overheads are license fees to FIFA and the NFL.

Great news to have Konami on board, and a nice quirky name for a franchise/game. Hopefully as well as new IPs from 3rd parties we'll get a bunch of decent old ones too!

AHA! Normaly it's 'no comment' with regard to networking, but not here. Maybe the online service is coming together?

It's good to see that Both Western and Eastern developers are really finding new uses for the Revolution controller and NONE of them in the least sound gimmicky or TACKED ON. Mark Rein seems like you were wrong about the REV.
