E3 2006 News | Kojima On Wii At E3?

By Mike Mason 29.04.2006 25

Gamespot have reportedly received a postcard that hints towards a Kojima project being announced on Nintendo Wii at E3 2006.

The postcard, which you can see here, is imprinted with the Kojima Studios logo and features several words beginning with 'RE', with the 'RE's highlighted like so: "RETURN," "REARM," "REGALE," "REBIRTH," "RESPECT" and "REFINE". The back of the postcard states that "the Revolt begins May 9th"; the same day as Nintendo's press conference.

Konami is refusing to comment on the postcard at the time of speaking. Kojima announced he had a title coming to Nintendo's next generation console late last year, wanting to create a title vastly different from Metal Gear Solid. There was also a hint that he wanted to target female gamers, but this postcard seems that it could hint otherwise on both of these points.

It is being refuted as nothing to do with Nintendo by many at the moment due to the seeming references to the Revolution moniker of old, but this is explained by the fact that the card was sent out a day before the 'Wii' name was announced.

The postcard, again, is here.

Stick with C3 for more as it comes...

REmake of Snatcher and Policenaughts perhaps? That would rock all our socks off and would suit the controller very well. Please please please!

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Nothing's stopping MGS4 coming to the Rev, even though I'd perfer a new IP.

They'll just have to send out an edited postcardSmilie

Methinks a survival horror may be in the works.

Konami did very well with the likes of their Lost in Blue, in theory of course, and a similar videogame could be manifactured and created in to a serious for Wii and could prove very successful.

Well the words obviously point to either a sequal or remake, and one would have thought that that would be of a classic Kojima-directed series or game. I highly doubt we'll get MGS, this leaves very little other than the cult classics: Snatcher and Policenaughts.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

A remake or sequel to Snatcher would be awesome!

Policenaughts was never translated, so retro fans wouldn't hesitate to lap it up. Any cult-classic could be transformed into a financial success on the virtual console if developers take the initiative.

My guess? "Revolt" pretty sums up a action title. And REARM; REBIRTH and RESPECT give that idea.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Any possibility its for the DS not the wii?
though wii is the point of news atm i dont see a reason for it not being a DS game.

There's always a possibility, but I think it's more likely to be a Wii announcement with the prefixes on the words.

So many people are jumping at the idea of Snatcher...which would indeed be great. What I'd like to see is a remade amalgamation of Metal Gear 1 and 2 from the NES, though.

Bundled with the original two for free via the Virtual Console! Smilie

That's a point, remakes of the originals would be great and a lot more likely. I would prefer Snatcher though, it could be adapted perfectly for the controller. I'm playing it on a Mega CD emulator at the moment and its great.

I'd really like an original game, but it doesn't look like we're getting one for now from the clues of 'return' and 'rebirth'.

There's also the fact that Boktai COULD be coming. Anyone remember how the forthcoming DS version has ditched the, admittedly clever, solar sensor in favour of an internal clock to control the sun?

Who's the say Boktai won't be on it's way? I know that's got nothing to really do with the postcard, but...meh, phooey!

Maybe it's a project with Kojima and Suda51?

E3 has past so lets take a look at what Kojima Productions and Konami have up their sleeves so far. Visiting the official website you can see there are two videogames coming to PlayStation Portable, one videogame coming to Nintendo DS and one videogame coming to PlayStation 3.

You know a series is on it's last legs when they start making games of the 'in between bits'... Just let MGS die...

REBIRTHOn to Nintendo DS, you have the excellent-looking Lunar Knights that seems to make brilliant use of Nintendo DS unlike Lunar Legends did, which was a terrible let down, please do watch the trailer for Lunar Knights, it is simply awesome!

Just want to point out that this has nothing to do with the Lunar RPG series from Game Arts. The 'Rebirth' aspect here is because it's Boktai DS renamed for the US market. The GBA games have a stigma attached due to the light sensor that restricted gameplay to during daylight hours outside, so Konami / Kojima has renamed it and removed the light sensor...actively giving birth to the series, again! Oh and Kojima and Koichi (Suda51) are working on a project together (Koichi-san confirmed this at E3).

It's Suda Goichi, hence 51 (5 + 1 = Go + ichi). Isn't he working on a project with Grasshopper separately from Kojima too?

Ah well, shame speculation was wrong this time, but you can't win them all! There'll be a Kojima Wii project soon, no doubt; he recently said he wished he could leave the MGS4 project and get to work on Wii...

Is it Goichi? Thought it was Koichi...never mind (must have 'K's on my mind from Kojima!). I knew about the 5-1 thing, very clever touch!

Kojima - has many ideas for the Wii
Suda51 - Grasshopper/Marvelous/Spike working on Wii project, Heroes
Suda + Kojima - secret project, hopefully on Wii...

Oops! I actually meant to say Lunar: Genesis but even so, that was from Ubisoft. That is what happens when you try to get a post like that out too fast! Smilie

Just a nifty bit of trivia: The little robot with a screen that you see otacon on in the old MGS4 video is your assistant 'Metal Gear' from Snatcher.Smilie Made me jump when I saw it.
Snatcher is a Metal gear game you see, the least appreciated and least known one.
