E3 2006 Interview | Kojima Positive About Nintendo Wii

By Adam Riley 14.05.2006 9

In a recent interview with CVG, Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear Solid fame went on record with his thoughts about the Nintendo Wii and also explained the reasoning behind Snake appearing in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Below is an excerpt from the article:

CVG: What are your impressions of Nintendo Wii and how did Snake appear in Smash Brothers?

Hideo Kojima: I've played Tennis, Zelda and Mario on Wii. I find Tennis very interesting. I played the early version but the E3 version is far more advanced. As a game designer, I'm very interested in creating something for the Wii. I'd like to run away from MGS 4 creation and create something for the Wii but unfortunately, I don't have anything that I can announce at the moment. I have lots of ideas for Wii but I have a heavy schedule with MGS 4 and Metal Gear Online. Concerning Snake's appearance on Wii in Smash Brothers, I'm friends with the designer of the game and I thought it would be nice if you could play as Snake - when I heard about the new game last year, I contacted the designer and we started working together.

Apparently Masahiro Sakurai will be creating a specific new stage for Snake in Smash Bros. Should be great! Smilie That bit in the trailer where he's on his 'reconnaissence mission', hiding in a box... Smilie

Run from MGS4, Kojima, run from it now! Smilie

Looks like we'll be getting a third generation game from Kojima. Never heard of Metal gear Online.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I think he's starting to get sick of only been known for Metal Gear games now

Great news, Adam! Smilie

As for Metal Gear Online, Kojima-san must be referring to the online modes in Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Apart from that, if there is a videogame in itself being developed called 'Metal Gear Online' then I am very much interested! Smilie

I just hope it isn't anything like Shenmue Online - a cheap China/Korea only MMO that looks like it will be very very shit.

I doubt that Kojima would let his beloved series to a third rate dev. If it is farmed out then it'll go to the best

Maybe Kojimi should just make a new franchise... MGS wasn't even too great from what I've played... Or maybe watched would be a better term with all those cut scenes...

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

I think it's pretty much 100% certain Kojima will make substantial contributions to the wii. With his constant praises for it and having many close friends inside nintendo including Miyamoto.

"I'd like to run away from MGS 4 creation"

I love this quote, you can tell he's getting tired of sequels and the lure of the wii is just too overpowering. Smilie I think hes already got something up his sleeve. Smilie

Dude yuor totally awesome. And i won't be killing you anytime soon.

Go Kojima!! That guy is the man...seriously, Snake Eater was one of the best games I have ever played! And I love his storylines as well, they're really clever and like intertwine with real life political issues. Smilie Some big words for you there
