E3 2006 News | Sony Places Nintendo Wii as 2nd Choice

By Adam Riley 14.05.2006 34

Quick News - Following Microsoft's Peter Moore praising Nintendo, Sony's Phil Harrison has said the same thing to GamePro, 'I think Nintendo will be the second system consumers purchase.' With even Sony and MS backing Nintendo in this way, how CAN the Kyoto company fail with the Wii?

This would make Sony third choice. Why bother?

Well Playstation still has a far more varied set of games than Xbox (eyetoy, singstar etc). They have more high profile exclusives aswell (MGS4, FinalFantasy, GT4, guys behind ICO, Rachet and clank etc) so the PS3 could still whip the 360 hard. Still I read an interview with MS saying they wanted to creat more casual games and if they can match some of sonys exlusives or even get them on there console like GTA4 then Sony won't realy have anything other than tilt controle.

Guys, you are all taking this the wrong way. This is all a publicity stunt from both companies. While it may seem like good heartedness, both companies KNOW that no-one will buy both, so what they are attempting to do is infuse peoples minds to buy their own by showing that they love nintendo, and its working....at least for the 360. Its all about playing down their rivals.I cant believe so many people are falling for this.
I thought I'd already said the same thing... Apparently I forgot Smilie

Then again... Surely Sony and Microsoft should realise that if they BOTH think that every person who buys their own system buys the Wii as well (Plus all the people who ONLY get a Wii) then it'd be Nintendo who comes out number one?

Oh no wait... That would require intelligence...

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

Smilie, hey people, this isn't neccisarily good news!! So stop saying it's awesome that Sony & Microsoft are praising Nintendo! It's buisiness, not praise, Sony & Microsoft are trying to defeat each other, using Nintendo as a tool to help them! Sony are basically saying "Don't buy a 360!" & Microsoft are saying "Don't buy a PS3!"

Naturally, since Microsoft made their announcement first, it certainly didn't sound like coincidence that Sony said it too a few days later. Geez, Sony need to think of their own ideas! Smilie

Anyway, so they're just trying to get rid of each other, they both underestimate Nintendo methinks, using them as a m ere tool...

*cough* nice job of copy/pasting my argument <_<;

Pfft i said it before both of ya! although this was concerning only MS at the time.Smilie

Hmmm I have a feeling he's really just taking advantage of us all. I mean Nintendo fanboys really hate sony, especially with the newly ignited hatred with the poor PSwii rip off. Now he's giving Nintendo fans a reson to buy a 360. "Wan't really great graphics as well as innovation but hate Sony? Well come on over to 360 land we have great graphics AND you can buy your wii aswell! Much better deal than a Shoddy PS network and wii tilt rip off!"

Or he could be just a really nice guy and have no sinister intentions at all

knighty has a perfect point, but I still find it hilarious that Sony and Microsoft are technically promoting Nintendo in an effort to downplay each other.

Nintendo's marketing stragety to breach out to new audiences while slowly drifting out of the cosole wars between the 'hip' XBox 360 and PS3 may just work out in their favor.

I'm going to quote here what I posted in this thread. Quite concerning.

I would also like to mention after talking to a friend I used to work with who is Dept. Manager at my local GAME store, he stated that they've received a few e-mails from SONY with package prices and launch dates and one detail in particular was that three of the launch titles range between
