Nintendo News | US Wii Launch Line-Up Confirmed

A[/size][/b]fter the wealth of titles that were shown at E3, speculators went to town trying to figure out exactly what would make the final cut for the launch of the Nintendo Wii later this year. Now what seems to be a finalised list has emerged from Nintendo and can be seen below:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
  • Wii Sports
  • Red Steel
  • Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
  • Madden NFL 2007
  • Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
  • Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
  • Metal Slug Anthology
  • Trauma Centre: Second Opinion
  • Elebits
  • Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
  • Blitz: The League
  • Rayman Raving Rabbids
  • SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab
  • Disney/Pixar's Cars

  • And from the above you can definitely see there is a lot of strength across many different age groups. The major hitters are likely to be the triple header of Zelda, Metroid Prime 3 and the exclusive version of Madden. However, the fact that there will be the exclusive Dragon Quest Swords on Day One as well is quite a major coup, since the series has definitely grown in stature over the past year thanks to the spectacular Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King on the PlayStation 2.

Seeing popular titles like Super Monkey Ball, Tony Hawk, Rayman and Trauma Centre on launch day is very promising as well, definitely catering to a wide sector of the gaming community. In addition, the quirky Elebits is one to watch [ Click for Preview ]. And it is quite clear that SNK's recent words were definitely very meaningful, showing its strong support for Nintendo and the Wii by managing to finish Metal Slug Anthology, complete with Wii controller functionality, in time for the first day. The chances of seeing old NeoGeo or SNK NES/SNES content on the Virtual Console are looking stronger and stronger!

Pretty good line-up if you ask me, certainly better than the 360's was.
It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Thats a strong line up for launch! Not just plenty of games, but plenty of games with potential! Also, most of them are titles more focused on the 'mature player'. Only a handful of younger games on launch, that certanly bodes well for the idea of the Wii being aimed at a particular audience. I hope we (or wii) in the UK see something similar to this! I'd better get saving now as theres at least 7 games i'd like to get! Smilie

Decent launch, I definitely wanna give TP Wii a go and see how it plays differently on that - Dragon Quest launch? Wow. This seems like a very solid mix of different genres that's for sure - the only thing I reckon that's missing is a decent racer (although Cars could be good..)

Robbo and Tismatron are right: Best console launch imho in a very long time.
And they got it right: they satisfy the core-gamers too. Look at TP, look at Red Steel, look at Corruption, Madden an Downhill Jam. Wonderful!

I think it's better than the one on x360 too! Despite some unique US-likings like Madden or Tony Hawk's I think this Lineup would be great for Europe too. I do not know how well prepared for the UK this looks like, but for Germany it would be nearly perfect.

and expensive: I like to buy 8 of these games... Oh my...!
I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Fantastic launch line up - I could see myself getting 5 or 6 of those titles and considering others. I'm very surprised that Dragon Quest is making it to a US launch.

No Mario Galazy there though. that's pretty disappointing, how long has it been since we had a whole new proper Mario game on Lauch day?

One day I will be a real life anime.

i agree its a very strong launch. It'll be nice to see how microsoft and sony react to such a strong opposition. Especially since i just read something about Heavenly sword and a couple of other big hitters for ps3 will miss the launch.

Wow that's a pretty nice looking launch!

There's a total of games there that I will want at some point, and there's decent variety as well!

I'm surprised there's no Wario Ware though...
YOU HAVE JUST LOST THE GAME. Sorry. Smilie

Looks like a top-notch line up! Now nobody jinx it by saying 'looks like no games-drought for Wii!' I remember the same thing being said about GC after the N64Smilie

Yeah, I agree the list kinda trails off around two thirds of the way down. However, I reckon there's about 4 or 5 potentially killer apps in that list - that's pretty incredible.

A long time, but it was said when it was shown at E3 that it wouldn't be a launch title.

Anyway, looks like an excellent line up to me, I'll be going for Wii Sports, Zelda and Metroid.

To be honest, there's something there to satisfy anyone. It's certainly better than the X360 launch line up.

No doubt about that. I'm just not bothered about things like Cars and Madden... I think I'll probably end up getting
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
    Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
    Wii Sports
    Red Steel
    Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
    Metal Slug Anthology
    Trauma Centre: Second Opinion
    Elebits
And maybe Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam eventually... Definately more games than I've wanted at any other console launch, even the DS Smilie

PS3 won't have an EyeToy or Singstar game, nor Heavenly Sword like The Penguin mentioned!

FF: CC was mentioned as for launch in Japan, but that could easily change. I suspect the DQ game was developed by a Nintendo Second Party like Brownie Brown or maybe its good friends at Camelot...under the watchful eye of Square Enix, no doubt.

Elebits really has my interest, so I'll be watching that. Zelda and Metroid are givens and I'll also be very tempted by Metal Slug Anthology, since it HAS to come with a cheap price-tag, surely!! Trauma Centre will be right up there as well (wish it was a new Phoenix Wright, though Smilie)

    Hmmm, I'd get:
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
  • Wii Sports
  • Red Steel

But isn't Wii Sports going to bundled?
