DS News | Nintendo Confirms Dalmatians as Euro Exclusive

By Adam Riley 22.05.2006 7

After many months of 'will it / won't it' speculating, following a listing for nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends appearing on the website of UK retailer GAME 'accidentally', before having its date changed and then being completely removed and classed as a mistake, Nintendo has actually confirmed that the new edition of the multi-million selling nintendogs series of dog caring simulations is indeed coming.

After launching in October 2005, nintendogs has become an ever larger success than in Japan and the US, selling more than 2.5 million copes across Europe, taking the total to around 6 million units around the world. Now, to soak up those that may have missed out on the innovative title due to stock shortages, Nintendo is bringing gamers (and non-gamers) nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends on 16th June, 2006, just one week before the Nintendo DS Lite launches here.

According to the Press Release, there will be an initial choice of six breeds to own and a further 14 to be unlocked. Previously the Dalmatian was a hard-to-unlock canine friend, but is now available from the start, along with the most popular dogs from the previous three versions - Dachshund & Friends, Labrador & Friends and Chihuahua & Friends.

No details have been revealed as to whether there will be a special bundle, but to miss out on such an opportunity would be surprising.

Expect more coverage soon...

Good stuff - they may as well drain the dogs for what they're worth, but is a wii bit silly to launch it after a majority of owners already have found or unlocked the Dalmatian breed.

Hopefully there will be some decent incentives to get this version - new items? special modes? etc, or there will be a lot of dissapointed breeders!

I'm a bit annoyed they're doing this actually, takes away the appeal of finding the secret dog in the originals...

It's really wierd that it's for Europe only, I think it's a mistake.

I think the Dalmation is really easy to unlock, but the Jack Russel isn't, they should have at least had a new breed or two, or just made it the Jack Russel version.

How DO you get the Jack Russel anyway?! Smilie

It's practically a way for Nintendo to print money...

I suppose we should be thankful that Europe get's it 'exclusively' though.

Well, the US got a 'Best Friends' version at Christmas last year, so this is basically the same, except focusing on the Dalmatian side to promote it better Smilie So it's 'exclusive' rather than plain exclusive Smilie

I agree with Polter as they should have shoved some new breeds in there, that would have been good. Would have made me buy it anyway Smilie even though I already have nintendogs...

By the way, you get the Jack Russel breed by finding the 'Jack Russel book' when you're out walking, much like finding the fireman hat will unlock the dalmation breed. I'm sure that even though the dalmation was originally the rarer of the two, I'm sure more people have found the fireman hat than the book...

I've never found the book, noone I know who has the game has found the book, yet they all have the seemingly common fireman's hat, which even I found, & I hardly even played the game!
