According to Codename Revolution, a Ubisoft VIP has been clarifying a few matters on IGN subscriber-only Insider forums about the company's exclusive Nintendo Wii game, Red Steel. Here is what he apparently said:

"It's the same controls, I just believe they were a bit tighter as we were developing on the GC dev for, well, for a while. I can assure you that we have plenty of time to refine, tighten, and ensure that the controls are solid. In regards to the blood, there will be blood - just not in a grpahic way. I believe you can have blood spurt and then disappear and still receive a teen rating. Regardless of that point, the game is all about the controller and it's movements - not so much about the graphics."

This will certainly come as great news to those that felt rather disappointed by the game post-E3!

Honestly..I had no problem with no blood but...meh..Just glad that they've got time to refine the controls..what with people complainin' about too much sensitivity, slow turning..etc Smilie

Thank God. This looked one of (if not) the best at E3, and was slated for poor controls Smilie

Regardless of reviews, this is a definate buy for me. The FPS category has never appealed to me like this one does Smilie

Turning looked horrid in Red Steel, all the hands on video's show people walking almost sideways down streets.

I'm still looking forward to it. I believe Ubisoft can make a good job of this. They usually pull good things out of the hat with multiformat games, so I'm sure they can perfect this as it'll only ever be on Wii.

It should look fucking incredible in time.

Sure there will be more blood. They have ratings in trailers after all.
Let me be a bit over the top: When you spurt 10 litres of blood per person around, you get an 'M'-rating. Which means even the trailers have to be restricted to these people. Nintendo wanted their show and their press-event being seen by all people out there - remember, they want this new no-videogamer-market...

So besides blood being mostly particle-effects and having to be accurately defined and checked for, they finalize these at a very late time in developing the game.

I do hope they are working on graphics, I mean, i'm not too bothered by the graphical capabilities, but for the wii to suceed it has to be somewhat copmparable to the competition, or the media will slate it.

I'm more bothered by Zelda and Mario and Corruption personally, unfortunately i'm not rich so red steel will have to come a s a possible buy for me.

I could never quite understand the whole fascination with blood. Perhaps it's just symbolic for masculinity? Or kids needing it to reassure themselves of it.

At any rate, the likes of Star Wars look just fine to me without blood. Then again, Star Wars are kiddie, right? Smilie

Speaking of star wars Powdered Water..apparently Lucas arts gave knowing nods and smiles tio the IGN editors when they asked about a star wars lightsaber game for wii, its seems it will happen!

I agree it'll be nice if you get a realistic spurt of blood when shooting and stabbing people. Not over the top though. I wouldn't want it to be like fountains.

i cant wait for red steel as long as the controls are better and theres an improvment in graphics then il be happy, as for blood well if u can see that blood spurting all over the place ur probably not going to notice it when your swinging your arms like a crazed lunatic!! Smilie

I think you will get used to the controllers in that game after maybe an hour of playing. Maybe that is why people complained about them, they couldn't get into the game, since there were so many people in line to play, so they got stressed. ^^

Blood, blood - don't mind it with or without, though would be nice to have a little splurge but not so OTT.

I think that once you're in your own room with a nice big cup of your favourite drink, with some time to get to know the Wii it'll grow on you. It seems those who have had a decent play time with it (usually magazine reps - before E3) have had a more positive response.

Yea the blood is a cool effect, *remembers playing liero wil full blood on* but either way it doesnt matter, going for the realistic approach theres nothing wrong with blood, although it will cut off anychances of a pg rating aka. who cares what rating.

I feel sorry for ubi...they are really putting an effort in and people are being too harsh when they've have hardly enough time to refine controls on such new tech. They really want oyu guys to know that they fixed it up now...and guess what, they are right. I saw a video on google that emerged just after E3. I was linked to it from a gamespot forum saying that Red Steel's control has been vastly improved. I saw a game journalist playing a Red Steel game off a gc-dev kit off the E3 floor. It was in some office, and the controls looked really tight. The man playing it looked very natural as he engaged in combat. He aimed quickly and acurately. Don't worry about controls, they already fixed it up.
and about the blood? Well it doesn't make a game better or worse but I prefer having blood in a serious shooting game. It's a bit odd when glass shatters and blood doesn't spray when a bullet enters a body.
