Nintendo News | DS Lite Almost Hits Million for Whole of April!

Quick News - Nintendo has revealed some impressive figures to Japanese retailers showing New Super Mario Bros. sold 900,000 units in just four days (higher than the initial shipment!), making it the fastest selling DS game by far. Tetris DS also sold 800,000 units in four weeks, plus the DS Lite alone sold 950,000 units in the whole of April!

Awesome stuff, definitely a great seller for the DS! 950,000 is a great figure, and it'll keep rising I reckon, especially in other regions with the Lite-a-coming.

There is no stopping the DS/DSLite! That puts it at 7 times Sony PSP sales in Japan for the same period, again.

Mario only helps, and wait until Final Fantasy III!

Even more impressive is Japanese interest in the Wii vs. PS3... Only 21% of Japanese gamers want a PS3 (due to price, mostly) and 68.8% want a Nintendo Wii according to Japan's most respected gaming mag, Famitsu. If those numbers hold up in retail, Nintendo will pwn the Japanese market altogether! That can only mean good things for American (and other world) gamers who will benefit from a flow of hits from Square-Enix, Capcom, Konami, Tecmo, and other giants.

Here's hoping Final Fantasy XIII gets a port to Wii! (Square sure won't make its development budget back on PS3!)
