UK Chart Highlights LXX
...Life is (Princess) Peachy for Nintendo

Your weekly UK Chart Round-Up brought to you by stat-man jesusraz. Remember, the images here do not reflect actual sales!

Peachy...

The stagnant nature of Nintendo's performance over here in the UK appears to be changing slightly. For as the tide begins to turn, the waters are beginning to clear once more and the pearl of success is becoming ever more visible under the surface. But nothing can last if Nintendo does not take full advantage of this run. The competition is heating up once again and Nintendo is ready to combat it with...Super Princess Peach?? Hmm...

Football, taken out with a bang

This week sees somewhat of a shock as Eidos manages to usurp the seemingly unstoppable FIFA World Cup Germany 2006 game to claim its second No.1 of 2006 with Hitman: Blood Money. Eidos's other great hope, Lara Croft, may have dipped to No.4, but her sales were buoyed by 37% due to price promotions last week. With a new entry for Rockstar's Table Tennis on Xbox 360 at No.3, it is interesting to note that on that system's Top 20, Hitman and Table Tennis not only take the top two slots, but combined sales of them account for more than the rest of the Top 20 totalled together! Clearly the 360 is still struggling in the UK against the might of the PS2 and increasing pressure from the DS.

With X-Men Last Stand now at the cinema, the tie-in game holds fast at No.5, with sales jumping a massive 65% (showing how strong the chart is this week), whilst Animal Crossing slips three to No.6 and Da Vinci Code bounds up four to No.7, with its sales shooting up 67%! Clearly this indicates that Animal Crossing's fall may not naturally mean a huge drop in sales. Continuing the Eidos onslaught, last week's new entry of Urban Chaos rides its way up seven to No.10, although Ice Age 2 thaws out and floats out to deeper waters at No.15 from No.8. The PSP's promotional work helps to keep Daxter at No.20, yet Monster Hunter Freedom on the same system drops five to No.23. In a busy week for handhelds, Super Princess Peach makes a surprise appearance new in at No.25. With her face plastered all over GAME at the moment, it would not be surprising if she has a strong second week as well! Pok

At least the DS is doing pretty well, even if software sales aren't quite as good as the PSP Smilie

I've only seen one other person with a DS, I've seen at least half a dozern people with a PSP Smilie

Anyways, good to see Animal Crossing still selling well, must be at least 6 weeks in the top now?

I'm not sure wether you're UK based or not, fenno but i've seen lots of people with the DS. Even when i went on a promotional excercise one of my female colleagues had one. A lady on the bus and her boyfriend was playing one, my friend and his girlfriend both own one,my two nieces..... the list goes on and on. And with the lite hitting the UK in on June 23rd, in three weeks time they'll be alot more people with playing the DS both in private and in public. Smilie

I've seen one at college and one in the sticky hands of a toddler in Woolworths. That's it. I see PSPs at college every day.
Tesco doesn't stock DS games, only PSP and PS2 games.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I see a lot of PSP's and DS's when i'm on the train goin into/Out of London. Plus one guy with a Micro (me)! Smilie

Good to see AC holding strong. I didn't think Princess Peach would sell at all. Nice to see it made the top 30 though.

Nintendo's problem is their lack of advertising. They will advertise for a game before it is released but when it is released the advertising stops. The game has to stand on its own. If it dips in sales there will not be an advertising campaign to boost sales. This is sad because with increased advertising Nintendo could be making millions more off their software. This is an area of weakness for Nintendo but is very strong area for Microsoft and Sony. Hopefully, Nintendo will hire someone that can turn this negative into a positive.

WHERE IS CHIBI ROBO!!??!?! This means it's out!! I can't find it ANYWHERE!!! Smilie

Maybe they've sold out of all 200 copies that they ordered for the UK? Smilie Unlucky mate.

And yeh OLU1701 I'm from the UK. The DS is obviously selling though...maybe people are just more likely to play their DS's indoors?

Unless you live in some shopping capital of the world, GC games aren't stocked in shops.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Well all the shops here have some... They're just crap ones most of the time, or incredibly old ones.

I can't understand why people keep buying Worms... It's quite possibly the worst game I've ever played. I'm sure they must have TRIED to ruin it, because there's no way they could make Worms suck so much otherwise

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

I dont think that i'll buy chibi or any GameCube game from now on...I kind of feel forced into buying games like Odama because they are the only games being released.

DS sales have been so strong lately. Nintendo should be proud!

I couldn't find ANY new GC titles in Manchester's GAME today and nothing newer than Mario Party 7 in GameStation Smilie

And yet Chibi still managed No.1 on the GC chart. Not too shabby considering Odama's performance.

You see i thought Nintendo's marketing skills were poor, and im quite known for saying things like that, but to be quite fair, Nintendo have actually done a kick ass job with the DS. They are advertising the DS way more than Sony are the PSP. Not only that but they have Channel4 in the UK covered. That is DS territory (and possibly Wii?????IM NOT CRAZY) , not only that but stands of Mario Kart,Metroid Hunters, Princess Peach, Animal Crossing, Sonic Rush and Resi Evil DS have all been in GAME and with Nintendo sending out demo pods of DSlite's to GAME in the upcomming days,(C3 stalker first on the news when it comes to GAME Smilie ) it should all be good

What happened with Chibi Robbo??? Smilie I went to Gamestation and it wasnt there??? Smilie It came out 4 days ago right?!?!?

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Manchester HMV have also brutally murdered Gamecube. At least Gamestation still give it a section...

Very surprised that Princess Peach got in at all, and good show from Animal Crossing once again!

Gamestation still give DC a section, so no chance of it getting dropped anytime soon Smilie

Why is Animal Crossing all of a sudden selling so much? Is it new in Europe?Smilie
