Nintendo Wii News | Crossbeam Show First Orb Shots

By Mike Mason 31.05.2006 22

Quick News: AMN has managed to snag the first screenshots from Crossbeam Studios' Orb for Nintendo Wii. Whilst perhaps underwhelming it must be noted that Crossbeam is a first-time developer showing its early demo for publishers to demonstrate the concept not looks. The final aim is to make it twice as good as Twilight Princess, but until then, take a gander at the shots below:

i hate early screen shots. People will always remember them as being like that.

E.g PS3 at E3 2005... people will always remember those kick ass graphics and not have even picked up on E32006!

Still cant wait to see how this game turns out

The style is there, there's potential... definitely potential.

Potential is what needs to be relied on at this point. Just keep repeating, 'it's only a demo, it's only a demo'...

    it's only a demo, it's only a demo, it's only a demo, it's only a demo, it's only a demo, it's only a demo, it's only a demo, it's only a demo, it's only a demo, it's only a demo...

Isn't that what they are saying about GT-HD on the PS3 Smilie

If anyone seriously thinks that looks impressive they should be shot <_<; They look like a 15 year old PC game Smilie

Yeah I know early shots, I'm just pointing out that they're currently crap Smilie

I'm trying to be nice about it. Smilie

When you are somewhat familiar with evolving 3D-Graphic, then there is absolute potential. The textures are placeholders, sky-dome too. But notice the hair of the woman, how its eds are looking almost like good hair-ends. I assure you, these will all be replaced. Geometry will be made less crude, textures are being replaced, light-sources are brought in, environment will be lighted and so on and so on.
But the trees, the landscape and the shape of the world looks promising. And the face of the woman is cute.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

    Looks interesting enough

They've also gone on record claiming that they had technical problems before the deadline to show their first images. But because they'd promised their fans some shots they wanted to get SOMETHING out to them, even in this low-spec PC form.

I was thinking of posting these yesterday but thought you'd probably get round to it Smilie

I think that at least some of it looks alright. I mean those 2nd and 4th ones aren't too bad. I'm guessing they've just tried to quickly whip up an envireonment so they can start testing the mechanics of the game... Nothing really to get upset about

    Indeed, they said this:

iIf those are early graphics then i'm already impressed

it looks a bit like one of those avatar games like Active Worlds, although, its more similar to the design of 'There'. Don't get me wrong, I love both of those, but I'm sceptical about how good the game will be.

Those screens would be impressive if they were demo-ing a DS. I'm being godly serious, and I think anyone who's said it looks 'amazing' either has the link wrong, or is hopelessly trying to reconcile the fact that Crossbeam've presented shots of a game that looks like it's running on a PSOne.

But we can't comment intelligibly 'cause it IS a demo, and they seem sincere in the explanation Mason posted above.

So disregarding the screens, the art does indeed have potential. And the aim to 'make it twice as good as Twilight Princess'? I love ambition like that, so I'll be keeping my eye on this oneSmilie

And no-one start preaching to me the irrelevance of graphics. I know, I know...

    Less posty, more gamey.

Itz not aboot teh grphx ps3 fanboyz! Iz all about gameplay cuzz I want NES graphics in MP3!

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

No doubt they're shite but... Not quite PS1 quality... I suppose if they give us some new screens next week when it looks much better then I'll believe that story...

Polygon wise it's third party DC/PS2, add not a single effect and some nasty library textures and detail and you have these screens. They must be pissed off about that server crash, maybe they should've just released 1 or 2 to demonstrate the shite-ety and made us wait a few more days for proper PC demo screens. Far too reliable if you ask me, it's customary to delay everything in this industry.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.
