Nintendo News | Wii E3 Graphics: 'Tip Of The Iceberg'
Recent News
Speaking to GameDaily BIZ, ATI's John Swinimer, Senior Public Relations Manager of Consumer Products, has gone on record to state that Wii will be able to produce far better visuals than what we have seen so far. "I think what you saw [on Wii, at E3] was just the tip of the iceberg of what the Hollywood chip can bring to the Nintendo Wii," he said.
When pushed for more specifications, the only comment offered was: "I'm really not here to talk about the design specs... other than the fact that ATI worked closely with Nintendo. The team that worked on this chip also worked on the Flipper chip that was in GameCube, and they've been working with Nintendo for a very long time so there's a great chemistry with the two teams working together."
"I really don't think that it's about the [specifications]; I think it's about the innovation that it brings to the table

noneGreat news really.
Although I like Nintendo's approach of focusing on gameplay, I still personally love to see some top notch visuals. Perhaps this is an indication that the Wii may excel on both fronts.
Erm... yeh.

TimoteiI was happy with what I saw, anything else is a bonus, so who can complain?
It still sounds a little like 'clever news' designed to relieve pressure on all of us who are trying to defend the graphics of the Wii, heh.
I still believe what we saw will still be very much the same as what we get when playing the games.

noneI reckon someone with 'the power' should post a load of links to other threads which have exhausted the whole graphics 'should-be-better-by-launch/are-great-as-they-are/look-like-badly-rendered-turds' subject.
Then this should be turned into the 'will I/won't I be able to get onto C3 tonight??' thread
I can't be alone in having trouble getting onto the site in the past few days??

TomazThis seems like a huge bonus considering everyone is already happy with what we saw at E3. Still it might help persuade a few X360 and PS3 followers if the system has even better visuals.
To be honest I don't think the difference between the Wii and the other systems will be noticeable, at least not for a while. We have to remember that it takes time for developers to fully utilize the power of the X360 and PS3 (especially), while I've heard numerous people going on record to say it's easier to get the best out of the Wii, or Revolution as it was known at that time.

noneAti currently have the best single GPU's on the market. The X1900XT & X1900XTX.
Why in gods name would they create a poor graphics chip for the Rev?

The graphics getting better=Yay, big bonus.
The graphics staying the same=Cool with me, abilities are good enough already.
And people saying the graphics look like shit must admit, shit CAN be very hard to portray accurately... All those curves and nuts...

Mike@C3Retailers always up their prices when doing pre-orders, because they don't know how much they can charge. If you pre-order the games for that price and they turn out cheaper, then you'll get them for the cheap price. It's so if they don't lose money if they put a pre-order up for

James2t3Hmmm.. the comment that it's just the tip of the Ice berg might not be reffering to better graphics. It could be referring to how it can handle the wiiremote or the wiiconnect24...thats what I got from it anyway.

STUWhen you think about it, a console with a gpu with a codename such as "hollywood" would have great graphics. This is great news and will hit Ps3 and x360 fans right in the face.

noneWell good, because I really wasn't impressed with the graphics at E3. They all would've been great GC games, but not very next gen. I didn't worry too much because it's early in the console's life (heck, to my knowledge, there's still a lot of third parties who haven't unlocked as much of the GC's power as they could've). Red Steel graphics are certainly tolerable, but I think that should be the standard for the next gen.
I mean, have you seen some of the Xbox360's stuff? There's some boxing game I saw at walmart that my brother was playing, I thought he was watching a cinematic until I looked down and he was pressing buttons. It had dramatic camera angles and such too, so it looked cinematicish. Then again, for a boxhing game, all you have to worry a lot about is the fighters and the ring. So whatever...I don't even know what my point was anymore..

noneHaha TAG, I've seen the boxing game you're talking about and it does look amazing. I also had to do a double take before realising it wasn't actually 'real'.
What we need to remember here is that not everyone is a faithful Ninty fan and that, by not offering top notch graphics they may be pushing away as many new players as they are gaining with their gameplay push. I'm talking from a sales and success point of view and not a personal one...

noneAm I the only one here who's abit skeptical and worried about this news post. Yes he said that what we've seen so far is only the beginning but when asked how much better, how much more powerful and actual specifications all he can reply is "I'm really not here to talk about the design specs...
Wait a minute, you are the Senior Public Relations Manager of Consumer Products of the company behind the graphical capabilities of this new console and you aren't here to talk about the graphic chip that YOU designed and manufactured? But you can say [b] "I really don't think that it's about the [specifications]; I think it's about the innovation that it brings to the table
